Val and Patsy’s Island Food

I’m very skeptical about Jamaican restaurants because as a Jamaican I judge restaurants that claim to be “Jamaican “. I got ackee and saltfish and I tasted ZERO saltfish on top of that the ackee was not cooked throughly, it was still hard in some parts and the dish I got it in was full of water … that should have been drained off . . I also got a patty and coco bread which honestly I just gave it to my friend because the bag was soggy like. I genuinely was hoping it would be tastey but was highly disappointed ,I don’t even want to try a lunch or dinner dish from here .

Came to try this establishment based on all the good reviews. My coworkers and I got the jerk chicken poutine and we were extremely disappointed. The jerk chicken barely had any flavour. It was very bland and had little to no spice. The gravy was watery thus making the fries very soggy. The food wasn't even hot, the cheese didn't even melt and there were more cheese curds that pieces of chicken. I've never had such a disappointing meal. To top it all off, they have the audacity to charge you $22 for this. I would have been better off buying a Costco poutine. Do not waste your money.

Went to Val and Patsy's Island Food for lunch today. The food was great; the atmosphere was great and the service was great. The chicken roti was a large portion. The festival, the plantain & the patty were awesome. A must restaurant to stop by for take out or dine it.

Lovely food made by lovely people, have been here a handful of times and never once was I left disappointed. Jerk chicken was juicy and leaves you wanting for more, oxtail has great tenderness and with the coleslaw, leaves a wonderful taste. One of the best restaurants in Ajax, hands down.

I was pleasantly delighted with the quality of food at Val and Patsy's place. Ordered goat curry, beef patty and jerk chicken. Both curry and patty was warm enough to enjoy the meal til to the end. The patty is very authentic and close to what I had in Jamaica 🇯🇲 Will definitely consider visiting again if I'm in the area.

I was in Ajax for the day and stumbled across this family-run spot. I'm so happy I did! Absolutely delicious homemade Jamaican food for great value. I got their Oxtail Dinner, which comes with rice & peas and coleslaw. It was delicious. The oxtail was so tender and flavourful. The rice and coleslaw were very fresh! I also got to chat with Patsy one of the owners, who was super kind. I hope to stop by again to try more of the menu. They do takeout, delivery and have tables for dine-in as well.

Loved this spot! Thankful for more Caribbean restaurants in Durham !! If was really good I had the fried chicken dinner and jerk chicken poutine ! Food is cool and the packaging was good because it kept everything warm and safe!! Definitely will return because price point isn’t bad either and the service was good too

Was in Ajax and didn't want the hotel food, so ordered Caribbean food from here, and let me tell you, the price was so affordable and the food was so much and so good. Highly recommend. I ordered some trini and Jamaican food and i loved it all. Had enough for dinner, breakfast and lunch the next day.
