The Maids Cottage is a new restaurant in Newmarket opened more than 6 months ago.
We are open for take out only. We have retired our dine in services. We have a wide selection of frozen meals to take home and of course our famous buttertarts to enjoy! Delicious homemade dishes such as Mac&Cheese, Shepherds Pie, Meat Lasagna, Cabbage Rolls, and Meat pies.

The Maids' Cottage's butter tarts are voted among the best in Ontario, and I can see why! The tart crust/shell may look thick and dense, but it's actually very light without being dry. The filling was also delicious and not overdone. They have the more traditional flavours (original, pecan, raisin), but also some seasonal ones like Biscoff, gingerbread, and pumpkin. The place has been around for a while now and has been known for its butter tarts, so they must be doing something right! The restaurant that used to be attached is no longer available.

Apparently everyone in Newmarket and beyond is aware of the deliciousness that are these award-winning butter tarts. I almost feel embarrassed for never having heard of them, as I pride myself on being a butter tart connoisseur. We got the pecan tart, and the tart bits…that’s right “tart bits” as in the pieces of the tarts that are normally discarded during the making of the butter tarts but are extra sweet and delicious and are, debatably, the best part of the butter tart!

Truly the best butter tart! The crust is fantastic and not an afterthought, this is what sets it apart from other tarts. So many options, and all great buy my top favourite is the Apple Buttertart.

Amazing butter tarts! They have such a wide variety of flavours and seasonal flavours. I picked up a dozen for a party and they were definitely a crowd pleaser. Tried the pecan, orange chocolate (seasonal flavour), apple crumble and lotus biscoff. The pecan and apple crumble were my favourites but they were all very delicious! They have ones that are “not so perfect” that are sold for $3.50 vs $4 regular price each which are visually not perfect but still equally tasty. They offer frozen premade items like soups, savour pies and sweet pies. They also sell pie shells, regular and gluten free. There is some seating outside. Staff were nice. Would definitely recommend if you’re in the area.

I heard about The Maids Cottage when I was looking for the best butter tarts in Ontario (and therefore the world). I've been eating butter tarts my entire life, and I have to say that the tarts they sell at this bakery are a step above any I've ever had before. The pastry is a perfect texture and flakiness, and the butter filling...my goodness is it delicious! The filling is a bit liquidy at the bottom, so the final bites are among the best. Anyone who wants to try one of the best (and perhaps THE best) butter tarts in the world needs to visit The Maids Cottage, it's as simple as that.

Came on a Saturday morning, and was amazed at all the different butter tart flavors they had! I only got raisin but they had everything from coconut, to pecan, to peanut butter. The two woman upfront are also awesome, very warming and you can tell they love what they do. The butter tarts themselves are amazing, I've heard they've won multiple awards at festivals and can see why. Will definitely be back and try some other flavours next time!

This place did not disappoint! They had tons of butter tarts to choose from. We grabbed breakfast and an about a dozen tarts. It’s a quiet little place on the inside and they have a little patio out front where tourists can eat. Would for sure recommend!

Can tell why they have the award for best butter tarts! The butter tarts were so buttery and sweet. And when eating butter tarts, sweet and buttery is the way to go.The butter filling is so smooth and thick and just coats the tastebuds so nicely. The cool thing about this spot is try have a ton of different butter tart flavours and seasonally appropriate ones too! On top of that they have frozen meals available to just throw in the oven and also a slew of different treats that will satisfy everyone. Had these a while back and reviewing them now as I was going through my camera roll. Had them around the fall time. Service was awesome!
