Halibut House Fish and Chips

The main problem here is consistency - if you get fish in batter, sometimes it’s light and crispy, and other times thicker and gummy inside. The haddock and chips on Sunday and Monday ($12.99) can be a good deal if cooked properly. The serving staff needs to be better trained - the ones I saw spent much of their time talking and laughing with the kitchen staff. No one asked how my meal was until a shift change and the new person did ask. I tipped a little but really shouldn’t have tipped at all. The original server put the food in front of me with a quick movement and 1/3 of the fries ended up on the table. No apology, no ask if she could bring more fries. Forgot the lemon - had to ask again. Most new restaurants fail after the first year - perhaps this will be one of them. Had lunch Monday Nov 25th - my server left after her shift while I was eating (around 12:30?) Disappointing.

First time in the new Welland location. We were not aware that this was a sit down and serve you kinda restaurant, so it was a bit of a surprise. We both had the Sunday deal. One piece of haddock and fries. It came with coleslaw, which we also didn't realize as no mention of this on the menu. Food arrived, not at the same time. My partner got his plate and I waited at least 5 or so minutes for my order. Fish was hot and tasty. My fries definitely could have been cooked longer. Tartar sauce was very good and plenty to go around. Overall service was good and we will definitely be back for other options and breakfast as the menu looked very reasonable!

Came with a large party, they were very accommodating. Everyone got the haddock fish and chips which was one of the Monday specials. Big piece of fish and lots of fries, very good deal. Everyone was very happy with the quality of fish as well as the portion size. Service was excellent, and would certainly recommend the place. Oh and the food came out super quickly.

The fish was fresh and not overly heavy with grease. The fries were not crispy. This alone affected the score. Salad was also fresh. Side note: there was an error in our order, however the server was very apologetic and polite so it did not affect my rating.

Went for lunch dinner. This place is yummy. Fish is lightly battered so you get a nice big piece of fish with little batter. The French fries are the nice big thick cut ones. The Tartar sauce comes in a bottle so you can use how much you want. It's real tartar sauce. Waitress is lovely. Staff seem great behind the counter. Reminds me of John's Fish And Chips used to eat at Long time ago...

My friend had told me that her and her husband were here and ordered their fish and chips a week ago, and they had really enjoyed the meal. So we went after an outing on Sunday evening so I could try them. I was absolutely impressed with the taste of this item. We also ordered the deep-fried mushrooms, and they were the best I've ever tasted before. Everything was cooked to perfection and had the most crispy but yet not at all hard, and the batter was the best by far. The best part was the dish I ordered was a special menu feature for a very good price and the best I've tasted. Also, the owner was very pleasant, and we had a good conversation about how he also has another location. A very welcoming place to enjoy a good meal.

10/10 - absolutely nothing to complain about! My wife and I went for dinner tonight and it was a great experience. We were greeted at the doors as soon as we walked in, sat down to a booth as requested within seconds, had a drink on the table immediately and our order was taken within 3 minutes! Krystal was our main server but Tia helped out and both were extremely sweet and attentive. We were checked on every few minutes by 4 staff to ensure we were satisfied. So in terms of their service it was phenomenal! On to the food! We ordered a Greek salad, calamari, fish sandwich with fries and the Wednesday Haddock Special. Fresh, delicious and not overly battered. Highly recommend! We also took the white chocolate cheesecake to go and chefs kiss all around. Would definitely go back again. A great addition to Welland restaurants!
