One of the most authentic karaage takeout places in town. Marinade, quality of chicken, and deep frying temp is spot on, resulting in juicy, crispy, tender karaage. Unfortunately they were rushing to close today and quality went down. My 1lb of tebasaki wings were all drumettes! The staff could’ve at least communicated that so I can decide if I still want it or offered something else in addition (since I also ordered momo karaage, a few extra pieces would be a nice gesture). Was really looking forward to the wings…..

Check out @bredgyeats for more delicious food pics! Momo (dark meat karaage) - Comes with edamame and cherry tomatoes. Chicken was moist and had a slight crispiness from the yam starch. Chicken was marinated nicely and batter was fragrant

Honestly, I'm not sure what makes the karaage here "award winning". Even taking into account how delivery could have affected the crispiness, it still tasted pretty ordinary. The chicken wasn't tender enough and I didn't taste any juiciness. I've definitely had better options elsewhere. While I thought the chicken sandwich was decent, the bun unfortunately looked like a mass-produced product you get from a grocery store because of its smoothness and shape. It also wasn't toasted, which could have easily elevated the taste. However the fried chicken pieces were generous and the slaw was delicious. The best item I got was the beef croquette. They didn't skimp on the beef filling and it had a deep, roast beef flavour profile. It was also fried very evenly.

Ordered the Karaage Mini Bento Box, the meal was just ok. The chicken itself was well cooked and moist. The batter however was dry, and not very flavourful. A side of spicy mayo or similar would have helped. The rice was plain. The coleslaw and potato salad were also just ok. I may go back to try the chicken sandwich, but if I don't it won't be a great lose.

Known for their award winning Japanese Kaarage. I tried the Tebaski, Nanban Chicken, Momo Kaarage, Croquettes (Beef, Corn and Cheese; Beef was my favourite), Tempura Green Beans, Potatoe Salad, Coleslaw and a variety of dipping sauces (all during one visit). Everything was amazing (Thank You Arvin for the recommendations)!! NOTE: There is no seating as this is a take-out restaurant. Right now Torisho Beach is offering FREE Ice Cream with Bento Box purchase - every FRIDAY! I tried the Black Sesame Ice Cream and loved it.

I am overjoyed at the recent opening in my neighbourhood in the Beach of a branch of the Japanese fried chicken chain, Torisho. I’m obviously not the only one excited because at one stage during the afternoon there was a lineup round the block. Torisho is part of a worldwide franchise of 300 establishments. It was originally started in Osaka although this is the first one in Canada. This one is takeout. When you think of fried chicken you might think of Kentucky Fried and that would be a big mistake. Torisho sets the bar much higher and is a totally different way of preparing chicken. It’s called Karaage and it’s succulent and delicious. To my mind, it would be incorrect to think of Karaage as fast-food. I chose the Bento Box - Momo and Mune which is five mixed pieces of boneless thigh and breast of karaage chicken - white and dark meat. This comes with white rice, cabbage slaw, potato salad, edamame and miso soup. I also had the tempura green beans. The Bento is a good way of getting a sampling of everything. The word ‘karaage’ refers to a Japanese style of cooking, where bite-size pieces of the chicken have been marinated for two days in a mixture of twelve herbs. I think I detected soy sauce, ginger and possibly sake as part of the marinade. There’s definitely a tempura flavour to it. It’s then coated lightly with flour, potato or corn starch and deep fried in oil. To my mind, it beats the hell out of Colonel Sander’s secret recipe and definitely seems a more healthy alternative. It’s tender and juicy as well as ultra crispy and has both taste and texture. The owners of the restaurant are three partners headed by Kaori. She was the inspiration who worked so hard to bring the concept to Canada and what a brilliant move this has been. Way to go Kaori! I suspect this healthy alternative to fried chicken is here to stay and with hopefully more branches on the way. On the door chatting with passerbys was Alexander who was doing a brilliant job of extolling the virtues of this new restaurant. He is fired up and obviously so very proud of the new enterprise that I mistook him for an owner. What a good team they make and this is a formula of cooperation that will make them for success. I wish them all much success. Welcome to the neighbourhood.

We got the karaage chicken and the nanban special - both were great! Preference was the karaage because it was slightly crispier. All was packaged well. Best if eaten soon after you purchase for peak flavour and texture! The potatoes, rice, coleslaw and edamame were a nice addition to the box. Location looks lovely and the staff were really helpful in helping us decide what to get. Will definitely be returning!
