The original steak pit was my favourite restaurant and we dined in and ordered takeout regularly. So when it closed, I was heartbroken. I initially heard a rumour that it was going to reopen but after so many years I had given up hope. However, one day my wife found that someone was selling the Mexican sauce - and then later, we heard they were reopening. So, we went there on the first day and I am delighted to report that it tastes just like the original. Sure, there were some glitches at the start but now they have it all down to a science. Get the Mexican ribs and get extra Mexican sauce on the side and you won’t go wrong. Garlic bread, French dressing and the vegetable platter are all like the old days.

Great ribs. Not as warm an atmosphere as the older Pit though. Free basket of garlic bread delicious. You get two if you have more people. But if you ask for an extra basket they charge 9.00.. excessive and not necessary, especially if you have a large party of eaters. Gets busy so reservations are encouraged

Was excited to hear the Pit was reviving! So we gave it a few months to get the kinks worked out etc. I have to say, I'm pretty disappointed. While you can't replicate another restaurant you can come close. This is sort of close. However the lights are so bright and blinding, there is no atmosphere. The food was ok but not fantastic. With the expensive prices you should be getting fantastic. I ordered the pit salad, which is a bowl of lettuce and a slice of tomato. $11! For what? Also the pop was flat so we asked for another one, she said there are no free refills! So for my wife and I combined had a salad, salmon (with no lemon mind you) prime rib burger and fries with 2 cokes was $75 bucks. Over priced for sure. Parking is okay but needs better lights. Giant step up into the doorway with no caution line was a great welcome for my 85 year old aunt. I appreciate bringing back the pit but it's a long way off. Also we had just about finished eating and the waitress just brought all the bills. Didn't ask for dessert or coffee. I wanted to have the coconut pie but it looked horrible. Like it was bought across the street at Bruno's. Some personality would be great with the servers as well. Also the butter was frozen which also is the sign of lack of care. May come back one day.

I really wanted to love this restaurant. I really did. For many reasons. Nostalgia. I moved to Toronto from Montreal in the mid 80s. The original Steak Pit was one of a handful of restaurants I remember being introduced to by my mother’s best friend. Included in that collection was the Pickle Barrel on Leslie. The Gatherings on Leslie. Mr. Greenjeans in the Eaton centre. The Lobster Trap on Avenue Road. Second reason. I don’t have what people would call a robust social life so when I do go out with friends/ family it is a real treat. My mom passed away during Covid. Her birthday is on November 18th. She would have been 84. As a little girl, I remember trying so hard to make her birthday special — which included going to the Steak Pit. On November 16th, my brother and daughter and I went to the Steak Pit. We had a 5:30 p.m. reservation. I was coming from the north end of Richmond Hill. There was a horrible accident that closed down a main artery in York Region, so I called the restaurant at 5 to let them know I would be a few minutes late. I spoke with Ian. He said that he needed to speak to the manager to see if the restaurant could hold my reservation longer than the 15 minute grace period. Ian put me on hold and returned 5 minutes later. He advised that at 5:45 if I was not at the restaurant they would have to release the table. I explained that my daughter is T1D and needs to eat at specific times. He didn’t care. We arrived at 5:55 p.m. Thankfully, our table had not been released. The restaurant was more than half empty. We were told that we had to vacate the table at 7 p.m. SHARP as it had been booked for another party. TBH I don’t remember reading anything about a 90 minute dining period. As you can imagine the attitude and rigidity set the tone. As for the food — it could be described as “meh”. As a child when I was first introduced to the Steak Pit the smells and tastes of the garlic bread and ribs imprinted on my impressionable body and mind. The ribs last night were underwhelming and forgettable. The baked potato was cold and hard. The salad was essentially iceberg lettuce with one sliced piece of tomato. The garlic bread was OK. My daughter has Celiac in addition to T1D. There were NO gluten-free desserts. My brother and I shared a slice of Sara Lee coconut cream pie. No joking. Honestly, I would have rather picked up high quality meat at a butcher and made the celebratory dinner at home for my mom’s heavenly birthday. Left feeling disappointed

So disappointing! WARNING: This is NOT the Steak Pit that I went to often and remember well. This is Bistro serving steaks and doing it really badly. Four of us had dinner. We ordered three steaks and ribs. Nothing came cooked as we ordered it; all three steaks were overcooked (all came medium well when we ordered medium rare), and the ribs were dry and tough. Service was brutal. Two of the steaks were the smaller versions of what we actually ordered. One person's meal did not come for over 15 minutes after the other three of us got our food, and one of us had finished completely. Nobody came to ask whether the food was ok. No adjustment on the bill for all the mistakes. Absent their great garlic bread, there was nothing redeeming about the experience. At about $75 per person for a steak (which includes a baked potato or fries, garlic bread and a small salad) a drink, tax and tip, there are so many better options.

So disappointing. We were so excited to experience the Steak Pit once again, I will never go back. Firstly there was a confusion over the reservation and my party of 6 was asked to give up our table. The manager was quite rude and uncooperative. We were moved to the Bistro. High tables and chairs that were difficult to climb up to especially for seniors and a room full of screaming children. Not what we anticipated for a Saturday evening dining out. We had to suggest a compensation for the inconvenience and the manager reluctantly gave us a bottle of wine. It didn’’t come with the meal and we had to ask about it. Presentation of food was disgusting. Skimpy and unappetizing. My salmon was overcooked and tasteless and quite expensive for what it was. There were no other options for me to order. Shape up folks or you wont be in business very long

This is not "THE STEAK PIT" at all. Food was awful, no ambiance, terrible service, was so loud you couldn't hear the person sitting across the table from you. Ordered a steak and it was so thin and tasteless. Felt like I was in a roadhouse bar somewhere up north in cottage country. This place should never have opened using the name The Steak Pit. Do not recommend this place at all. Very disappointed. Save your money and go to an authentic steak place.

For those who remember the old Steak Pit, this will take you back to the good old days. The classic ribs are exactly the same as I remember. And order of ribs comes with a plate of olives, radishes and pickles, as before, and a basket of garlic bread. The two main difference are that they no longer provide the finger bowls at the end and the prices. A full rack is $39.00.
