Came here Christmas Eve and the place did not disappoint. The food was delicious and the service excellent. We tried almost every dish and most were really on point. The only exception were a few burnt pieces of the beef ribs. The desert was also superb with innovative combination. For a highly rated restaurant, the price was also decent. I would definitely recommend this place, but note that finding it can be an adventure as it’s hidden in the back of a building with just a cardboard being the sign. I guess it adds to the charm.

Really cool atmosphere and it feels like a casual speakeasy slash diner feel. The food was incredibly delicious! I think some people might assume they are going to an "authentic Chinese restaurant" and that Sunny's price points don't reflect those old school places. But Sunny's offers delicious Chinese food in an elevated manner but somehow not in a pretentious way either. You're going there for vibes but also pretty decent Asian food. The dishes were all well executed. The Husband and Wife dish was actually really spicy, I mean I coughed for awhile there and I generally thought I could take spice. They did not skimp on the heat. That's when you know. The typhoon squid had a ton of chilis in there as well. The toast was absolutely godlike and went great with the ice cream. At that point I was full but I powered through because the toast was so good. The service was very welcoming and fast I might say. Overall I really enjoyed my experience here and would recommend to try this place at least once!

Came here with a friend who is not familiar with Chinese cuisine and she enjoyed half of the food we ordered. As a person that has had Chinese food before, the food here is nothing special. You can probably find better options in Markham with half the price and 10x the flavour. Unsure how they received the Michelin star. The service was alright in the beginning but after all the food has arrived, no one came to check on us anymore. When we finally asked for our server, she came and asked us “what do you want?”, a little bit surprised by her attitude.

The staff were friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu. We ordered Dan Dan noodle, the short ribs, the tiger salad, and the French toast. We would for sure reorder the short ribs, tiger salad, and French toast. Note that the short ribs have Sichuan pepper leaves a tingly feeling in your mouth. The French toast was the best dessert I’ve had in a long time. Crispy and saucy at the same time. Will eat here again for sure! Photos don’t do justice.

Such a hidden gem of Kensington market. Food was delicious, with a large variety of menu options from different regions in China, great for sharing. The Silver Needle Noodle’s wok hei was fantastic, and the Husband & Wife Beef are beautifully flavourful. For desserts, the Black Sesame French Toast is a must-try, but I also loved the soft serve.

Had a great experience at Sunnys Chinese. The place is very cozy with nice decor. It's just a bit confined. Otherwise, it was okay. The foods are great as well. I highly recommend the Orange Chicken. It comes stir-fried with their signature sauce, but the chicken still holds its crisp. As for the portion, I would say 2-3 dishes + rice is enough for 2 people. We ordered the toast for our dessert. However, our order was omitted and only realized after 15 minutes (which was not a big deal). Our server apologized promptly and offered the toast on the house. Overall, it was a great experience and will come back to try other menus.

I had a great experience at Sunny's. Service was excellent and and attentive although we went around the busiest time (around 7:00) so everyone was busy and bar was backed up. We had our drinks comped so I wanted to mention that we were appreciative of that. Other reviews suggest that cheaper Chinese food could be had elsewhere, which is true and understandable. The flavours are authentic and familiar but are slightly pricier. But I feel like, due to the location in the Kensington neighbourhood, your more here for the vibes and drinks. The food is tasty, greasy, good drinking food to be had with friends. The mapo tofu is spicy, with great pepper flavour. The orange chicken was sweet and crispy, easy to eat. Silver noodles had a familiar salty stir fry flavour and the noodles were bouncy. Garlic green beans were okay, quite a small portion, but the vermicelli noodles underneath were flavourful. Overall, enjoyable experience that we'd share with more friends.

Visit for first time in the weekend. The decoration and atmosphere is great, I love the aesthetic of the place, color, illumination and music. Service stared good and strong, they were very nice, refilling our water before we even need to ask, and helping us to order. However as after we were served the food I felt a huge lack of attention to our table. When the food arrived, I asked for a bowl of rice since I notice most of the dishes were too salty and I needed something to balance it. Sadly I was to wait 20 minutes! I was there not eating food trying to make contact with the server to ask about the rice, but no one stopped at our table on that time and our serves just kept walking fast without even looking at the table, so after 20min I had to ask a runner for my rice. And at that point I knew they didn’t even place the order because I waited another five minutes for the rice. For an Asian restaurant I think it is incredible that they did not have rice ready to serve, and took so long to even acknowledge that they forgot. Worst part they did not apologize and they did charge me for the bowl of rice. Other than that, the food was good, best part was the squid and the French toast, the rest of the food was delicious but not that special, specially for the price. Drinks were med, we order 4 different ones and we only like one. Will come back again to see if service gets better.
