I ordered the oxtail with rice and it came with a side. The choices were coleslaw, plantain, fries, or festivals or mac & cheese. I got the mac & cheese, and it was delicious. The oxtail was really tender and juicy as well, though it was very salty overall, it was a really great dish and I would order it again.

It was my first time going to this location at Yorkdale Mall (Dec. 27, 2024) and I won’t go back. I’m Jamaican and thought it would be nice to treat myself and try this location (I’ve been to the Square One, Mississauga location also). I got the small oxtail meal with rice and peas and coleslaw. The meal would have been delicious if it wasn’t for all the salt in the oxtail seasoning and in the gravy that was all over my meal. The salt was overkill. Please tone down the salt, it will kill people. The coleslaw was in this tiny plastic container that had about two little baby scoops in it. Last I checked, there wasn’t a shortage of cabbage in Canada. There’s no need to scrimp on coleslaw. It adds to the meal and for the cost of my small meal ($18 before tax) coleslaw should be a given. I’m not going to waste my money at any Roywoods restaurant in the future. I’ll go back to my regular restaurant, Scotty Bons in Brampton. Look it up, you won’t be disappointed.

Juicy and tender jerk chicken. The coleslaw was so creamy and tasty. Definitely would recommend and return for more!

Checked out Roywoods for the Kitchen King collab menu. Unfortunately much of the plantain and oxtail dishes that Kitchen King shares on social media were NOT on the menu. The menu had generic Caribbean food (jerk chicken, oxtail, beef patties etc). We tried the oxtail fried rice with oxtail gravy and the jerk chicken sandwich with fries. The meat was flavourful for both however the portion sizes did not feel worth the price. We took our food to go, it travelled well. The fries came seasoned (unbeknown to us as the menu has fries and seasoned fries). The fries were HORRENDOUS. They appeared to be caked in Lawry's seasoning salt or similar and tasted very bitter as a result. Food was overall not worth the hype. Kitchen King needs his own storefront.

The staff there were welcoming and nice. I ordered the large fried chicken meal. I got 3 peices of the driest and not crispy but reasonably seasoned chicken pieces. The rice and beans topped with gravy were yummy. The tiniest portion of coleslaw was given. Overall, the meal was quite salty and underwhelming as I had higher expectations for the fried chicken. I do not recommend getting the fried chicken.

Tried their menu before and came back to try their new menu items. I wanted to try their oxtail plantain philly sandwich. The flavour was definitely there in the oxtail. Wished the plantain was seasoned with a touch of salt. My only complaint was the sandwich was hard to pick up out of the container. If it were wrapped in parchment paper or tinfoil, it would have been easier to hold like a sandwich. Instead I had the sandwich fall apart as I ate it. I guess the container is only good for catching the oxtail droppings and gravy?

First time trying this location as I’ve always gone to the fort York location, however I wanted to try the oxtail sliders curated by the “kitchen king”. The oxtail is hard, chewy and tastes like it’s been sitting for hours. For $20 for 3 little sliders and stale oxtail, not cool at all. Definitely will never go back here and will stick to Roy woods on fort York.

I have ordered here before but since I heard new chef I thought I would try it again. Today I ordered the BBQ Chicken, Rice and Peas and side Mac and Cheese. I have to say I was anticipating having a great meal today but it was just ok. The Mac and Cheese which they didn't have before I was most excited about trying. It was ok. I requested the oxtail gravy on the rice but in all the meal was not earning any excitement for me. I will however, acknowledge that the patties are good. If you are a first time foody with Caribbean food you may just like it but, if you are a well seasoned West Indian food eater you won't really be interested in the food. Just the patty, lol
