Where do I start with this. I came here yesterday to get lunch for my dad and I. I preordered it and it took me roughly 30 minutes to get to the restaurant. I ordered 1 jollof with chicken for my dad and 1 Waakye with beef for myself. When I got to the restaurant it wasn’t ready - after preordering it 30 minutes ahead also I had to wait 15+ minutes with only 2 people in line ahead of me, and when it came to my turn she just started making my order as if I didn’t call ahead. The Waakye comes with 1/4 of a fish a boiled egg and beef, I told her instead of fish please substitute it for beef. She gave me 2 pieces of beef in total. I was confused and she clarified you only get 1 piece of beef and 1 fish with your order. A whole carton of rice and spaghetti and they only give 1 piece of beef? And this meal is $17😕. If you want more than 1 piece of beef you need to pay $5 - then they will give you 1 more piece. I was shocked. I asked isn’t the jollof and Waakye supposed to come with salad ? She said the salad isn’t prepared yet … it was 2 o’clock in the afternoon. This restaurant is a complete rip off. Imagine going to a different culture restaurant like a Jamaican one and ordering curry goat or stew beef and they give you ONE piece of curry goat or ONE piece of stew beef to eat with a whole carton of rice. The restaurant is extremely hot with no AC inside, they have those $5 foldable chairs and tables that you get from Walmart. They just got a debit machine in 2024. Also the staff is extremely slow and rude. Overall it was a TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE I would not suggest anyone eat here, this explains why the restaurant hasn’t evolved.

I hate to write a bad review but honesty is the best policy. Poor service with lack of communication, slow service, reheated food (with what I assume is a microwave), food just not great but I guess can do when you need a fix. I wouldn't recommend it here. Till this day I'm on the search for the Ghana spot that gives me what I've been missing

Food was buzzing minus the unwelcoming service received. I ordered Waakye and boy, it was scrumptious. Will be returning to order more.

If you are a Ghanaian or an African and you want something “home” to eat, this is the place for you. I went there to eat fufu with friends on the day I was leaving Toronto. It was so ideal to have a taste far away from home

If I could give this place a 20/5 rating, I would!!!! Amazing amazing amazing food. First time here and I'm definitely coming back. The flavors are exquisite! And there is a good ambiance to sit and enjoy your meal.

The waitress was nice and very personable. The atmosphere was filled with good music and the environment was clean. The waitress used appropriate utensils to dish out the food. I got information about other businesses in the restaurant. Rita's kitchen a great community builder. The waitress did a good deed today. She has paid her dews to society.

This restaurant works on two different extremes. For one, the service definitely leaves a lot to be desired. They would rather you yell at them over the LOUD music repeatedly instead of just walking over and speaking to you. If you're not familiar with the food and ask questions, they might make you feel like you're being a bother. You might find that they'll literally walk away from you when you're mid-sentence, and will come back at their leisure. If you want to pay by credit card, you'll have to literally walk to the furniture store next door to pay there instead, and bring back your receipt as proof of payment. However, the food helping was good when you balance the cost. I ordered Waakye (rice with pigeon peas I believe) with chicken, but I had to pay extra for the fish. Apparently it would usually come with beef instead. That totaled (with tax) a little more than $25. What they forgot to mention was that I would also get a boiled egg, an optional salad, a bottle of water, red sauce, shaved casava pepper sauce and "macaroni" (thin noodles, don't expect literal cheesey noodles. They use the term macaroni like Italians would). My plate was so full that I couldn't see the rice underneath. I'll admit the red sauce carried the whole meal, but I got a lot of it. The food also came within 2-3 minutes of me bringing back the receipt. Dollar for value, compared to other "African" restaurants, the price and speed of food service was second to not (so far). With this said, despite the initial rudeness, I had to give their service an extra star. End of the day I can't be as hard on cultutal family-owned restaurants like I would a chain restaurant. Sure the speakers literally were blaring because they couldn't handle the music volume. Sure the music would get interrupted mid-song by YouTube ads. Sure the menu is literally just a single sheet of paper that's printed with non-complete information. Either way, if you want some affordable Ghanaian food, why not give this spot a try? It was worth the money.

Absolutely love the food at this establishment. I go at least once a week with my husband. Every dish is delicious and definitely worth the price. The portions are large and if you go home hungry, it's ur own fault. I would agree the atmosphere isn't the best and they could really use a make over. But the food outshines the look of the place. Highly recommend Rita's Kitchen for all ur Ghanaian dishes.
