Had an amazing lunch experience here on a Saturday afternoon. Warm and welcoming dining room with big natural skylight creates a great atmosphere! You gotta have the Viennese coffee and any of the schnitzels.. they're extremely generous portions. Service was lovely as well, very charming place.

This restaurant fell short of our expectations, especially compared to others in the area. We were a group of 20 adults and teenage boys looking to enjoy a post-game lunch, having made a reservation in advance. Despite the restaurant being fairly empty, we were assigned only one waitress to handle our group. Service was disappointingly slow, and the waitress was uncooperative when we tried to simplify her task by organizing our orders sequentially by family to avoid confusion. She took a considerable amount of time to take each family’s order and was dismissive when we tried to help. When the food finally arrived, it was underwhelming—poor quality and limited options. My fish was incredibly disappointing—it had an unpleasant smell and was completely bland, lacking any flavor or seasoning. I can’t recall the exact dish name, but it was easily the worst meal I’ve ever ordered. To make matters worse, when it came time to pay, the waitress preset the tip amount to 18% on the payment machine, giving us no option to adjust it. Overall, the experience was disappointing, and we do not recommend this place to anyone.

Went for dinner on a Friday night. Traditional German decor and I was greeted by friendly staff. The restaurant wasn't too busy on a Friday night. I had the goulash soup which was excellent followed by the schnitzel which was very good too. Prices were reasonable, yet, I noticed that the prices had gone up compared to recent photos of the menu. I was served by Barbara who was excellent. Note that the restaurant does close a little early (I believe at nine).

I am so baffled that this place has received so many good reviews. My friend and I chose this restaurant on May 4th for a late lunch/early dinner (approx. 4:30 pm) It was the first day of beautiful weather and sunshine. The place was quite empty as dinner crowds had not come through yet. The host refused to let us sit on the patio saying they’re not serving food on patio, even though there was a couple being served on patio already. He passed us by all the nicer tables close to the front of the restaurant and shoved us in the sad looking back room that was old and dingy. The decor of this place leaves a lot to be desired and seems to be stuck in a time zone older than me. We had gorgeous view of the back room’s storage area(see pictures) Our server was pleasant but that was the only pleasant part of the experience. The bread they brought to the table was the cheapest bread that can be found on store shelves. It was not even toasted. Sad sight. (See picture) When I suggested to our server that perhaps they could toast the bread, she replied: we don’t toast the bread here! Fries and the grilled chicken were under cooked and under seasoned. Salad was very very basic. The beer was the only saving grace here! Will not set foot here and definitely don’t recommend.

Their schnitzels are very good. I really enjoyed the Jager Schnitzel with bacon and mushroom sauce. Colleagues ordered Wiener schnitzel and parmesan schnitzel sandwhiches which were also nice and crispy. Sandwhiches are big. Service is a bit slow. Took a while to get our food but we didn't mind since we weren't in a rush. Sat for about 2 hours total. What rubbed us the wrong way was the automatic 18% gratuity that the server picked for us before handing the machine. I would've tipped well regardless but do not appreciate forced tipping. They also try to upsell food and beers, so be mindful of that. Food is on the higher end but it's in Unionville, so that's expected. The ambiance is very nice.

I love the food an ambience of this quaint little restaurant. Oyster stew - wasn’t really a “stew”, but more like a chowder soup. It was heavenly…I secretly wanted a second helping… House Platter - schnitzel, pork loin, sausages etc. - just like the one we had last time we ate here. Delectable. I didn’t try the vanilla ice cream. 🍨 I had a piece of Viennese chocolate cake instead. It wasn’t too sweet - it tasted just right.

Here is a real experience in Old Unionville. Much more room than it appears from outside. Well laid out, nicely decorated. Elena worked hard to keep us happy, we were 9 for Easter lunch. Got the orders correct, food came quickly, very well made, good tasting, excellent portion size. Love the Gouash soup, Schweizer Schnitzel is really good. Dessert is excellent Sacher Torte very nice. Reasonable wine list. Everyone enjoyed it. Give them a try!

Love this place. The moment I stepped inside, it brought back great memories from my trip to Vienna many years ago. This place is a real gem and you can’t find such charming place in Markham any more. We had the Old Country Inn Schnitzel (which is breaded pork cutlet topped with brown sauce and mushrooms). The cutlet was moist and the sauce was delicious. After a satisfying meal, our lovely waitress recommended the apple fritters for dessert. So glad we took her advice and ordered it. It was crunchy outside with a soft warm apple center. The vanilla sauce served with it was just to die for. It was so good that I forgot to take a picture. This place really brought smile to my face. We will come back next time to try other dishes.
