Mr. Wong Chinese Restaurant

I am writing a review to let everyone know to please be careful at this establishment. I ordered in takeout from this place (this was our favourite Chinese restaurant for take out. Cheap eats and good food originally) and had some leftovers that we put away into our fridge. Two days later, I had the rest of the food and ended up getting food poisoning from their general chicken. This resulted in me ending up in the ER, was constantly sick for 4 days straight (constant vomiting and diarrhea), and had to be off work for 8 days. My wife and I made a call to Toronto Public Health to make a complaint and on November 8 they obtained a conditional pass. You can review this on Toronto Public Healths Dine Safe by searching Mr. Wongs as proof and I have provided screenshots for ease of reference. Since then, on November 18 they did obtain a passing grade again through Toronto Public Health, but I still feel strongly to write a review as a warning to all potential customers as this could happen to you.

Do not recommend. Ordered the vegetable lo mein and it was completely uncooked. The noodles were crunchy and hard. I felt so nauseous after a few bites. The service is also very disappointing, the waiter was very aggressive and rude.

I DO NOT recommend this place! My mom and I came after a driving test because on their doors it said that their milk tea is $3.50. when we came the place, the only lady working there said she has it. So we also asked for a lunch special and when we were about to pay, we noticed that the price was too high. The lady put the bubble tea as the full price and dismissed the fact that they have a poster saying it is $3.50. After we ordered, we sat down at the table (they had a bunch of empty tables) and then the rude lady came to our table and said it is only for takeout (did not warn us at all about it) and took away the forks and spoons that were in front of us and put it at a different table?! Why are the tables set with spoons, forks, knives and plates / napkins, when customers can’t even sit and relax to enjoy their food. The lady was very unpleasant, when the food was done she just brought it to the table and left. As well as while the food was in the process of making, the lady was yelling at the chef. I do not recommend this place, find a nicer one that will have friendly customer service! :)

Food is very cheap for the amount you get. You pay $12 for a meal which could be enough for 2 people. Food is very good and comes out quickly and still very hot. Only reason why I give this 5 stars is because they were a couple of items I personally didn’t like. But that’s just based on preference. The atmosphere is very cosy but nothing mind blowing. And the service is very good but at times it was hard to understand the employees. But again that’s not their fault and simply a language barrier. Highly recommend this place if you’re in the area.

Seems like we’ve been looking for a good reliable spot for Canadian Chinese for years, saw this and the relatively low ratings, but decided to try anyway. Glad we did, it’s exactly what we need. Fresh, good quality ingredients, no nonsense dishes. Our only complaint would be the lemon chicken which was heavy on the batter, otherwise excellent. We’ll be back!

I am giving 3 stars only for 2 reasons, they don’t sell alcoholic beverages and in some of the other reviews there are Pictures of the restaurant being a buffet and the menu says “Scarborough buffet” even though is not. I guess is from the same company, Scarborough buffet was located at Markham and I really liked going there, other than that, the food is very delicious and it wasn’t busy. Friendly environment and good service.

I would give a 5 star but they weren’t having AYCE due to their system being down. They made up for it tho, service was very fast and the staff was very attentive! We had general tso chicken (9/10), ku po shrimp(9/10)and chicken balls (7/10). They were worth all the money spent, I’d recommend getting the mango salad and spring rolls for appetizer they tasted so good!
