MIMI Chinese is a new restaurant in Toronto opened more than 6 months ago.
Located on the outskirts of Toronto’s vibrant Yorkville neighbourhood, the MIMI story begins with memories of the past. Loud conversation over plates of steaming noodles. The rush of servers moving quickly about in starched white dress shirts and pressed black bow ties. Darkly lit nooks with deep shades of red. The clanking of cutlery as cocktails are shaken swiftly in the background. A fragrant scent of Sichuan peppercorns toasting in the wok. Moments of celebration and togetherness over both new and familiar food. MIMI Chinese offers a place of wonder that brings back a taste of the past.

A 10/10 meal with great service and a warm atmosphere. Would recommend for date night or special occasion - but the dishes are best enjoyed family style. A fresh take on traditional Chinese dishes that are packed with flavour and leave you satisfied. MIMI Chinese definitely lives up to the hype and I look forward to dining here again soon.

Came here for a birthday dinner. Overall, food was good but there were definitely some misses. 4 foot noodle was super cool but quite spicy so watch out for that if you struggle with spice. Shrimp toast was excellent, and stuffed wings were also interesting and tasty. Cucumber salad was good but definitely overpriced. Typhoon shelter turnip had an odd bitter taste that a lot of my friends commented on. Hidden chicken was very good, but portion size was deceptively small. Way too much chilies vs chicken ratio. Cha siu was the best dish of the night, everyone loved it, and very decent portion size. We also got all 3 desserts to share, the cake was excellent, everyone liked the ice cream. Hk waffles were a little underwhelming. I don’t think the tasting menu is necessary, just get some things to share if you’re in a big group.

First of all, I have been MIMI twice within 2 weeks, because I was impressed by the food and vibe there, especially the Hunan Chili Sea Bass, so I recommended to friends and back again. Overall I still like the food, but I will only give 3 star service for today’s unpleasant experience. The story of today: the Hunan chili sea bass first served today was fishy, when I tried the first bite I know it’s not perfectly fresh, which was totally different with the one I had last time. I let everyone in the table tried and they all agreed, my friend’s comment: fishy and overcooked. We tried two bites and confirmed it was not the one we expected therefore we told the waitress about this problem and they took it back. A lady I assumed is manager came to us, told us that they would like to change new one for us but chef and she both tried and they believed it was not fishy at all, if change a new one it will taste the same…Well, as a customer who visited here two weeks ago and today back for this dish, I know how good the fish should be, and as a Cantonese who was growing up with having steamed sea bass, I believe I can tell if it’s a good fish or no, another reason could be the most fishy part have been eaten already, because it happened to be the best part that people usually eat first. I told the lady about our opinion but she answered “so as our chef.” (Meaning I know what’s good and so as chef) Honestly, we don’t like the attitude. The lady could just changed a new one without insisting they don’t have any problem. And you know what, the second one was perfect done and fresh. We all love it so much. But the manager not even returned and asked us how was that one. She never asked again. I returned the dish not even because it tasted overcooked, if it was not fishy then I probably would accept it, because I know the kitchen is busy sometimes timing wasn’t that accurate. I truly appreciate all the efforts that every restaurant made, but more humble and open minded are appreciated as well. P.S. the experience wasn’t about the server of our table tonight, she was very nice.

Everything about this restaurant was amazing. Our expectations were exceeded by far. The food was amazing. We ordered 5 dishes and they were all packed with flavour and good sized portions. Our server was amazing. The service was overall 10/10. Hands down the service was better than Lees and other Asian inspired restaurants. My husband and I were very pleased and will definitely be back!

Mimi takes the Chinese food that you know and love, and kicks up a notch, bedazzling it to showcase an upscale fare of Chinese fine dining. We had a myriad of cocktails to start but most notable are the clarified milk tea and Lala land. The clarified milk tea is exactly as the name suggests, simple and delicious, whereas Lala land is a smoky spicy margarita that's heavy on flavour! The meal quickly moved to four appetizers: smacked cucumber salad, hot & sour amberjack, stuffed chicken wing, and hidden crispy chicken. The hidden crispy chicken is definitely a standout, "the fun is finding the bits of chicken in the pepper" is what our waiter said, and he was not wrong. The chicken was perfectly crisped and surrounded with the intense aroma of the spicy peppers. The additional green onions in there are extra flavourful so don't forget to pick those out as well. The smacked cucumber salad actually pairs very well with this chicken especially when we bite fully into a piece of pepper, so it's highly recommended to order it along side the chicken. The stuffed chicken wing is stuffed with a fragrant mushroom sticky rice, not particular outstanding but worth a try. The amberjack was very fresh and had a delightful oceanic taste, though it didn't feel like there's a lot of Chinese influence in this dish. For the mains, we went with the green scallion fried rice, stir fried greens, fried rice noodle roll with hangar steak, and the special A5 Miyazaki steak. The steak was incredible, but also unsurprising given the reputation, though once again I'm left wondering why this was on the menu as there's not really a Chinese influence aside from a very light black pepper sauce. The green scallion fried rice and stir fried greens were so fragrant, especially the greens which were coated in a delicious sauce with dried shrimp (in case you were hoping for something healthy). The fried rice noodle roll seemed promising but ultimately did not deliver as they used way too much dark soya sauce. The experience was ultimately excellent overall. With a friendly and attentive server, a full menu of fascinating selections, and gorgeous decor (you gotta have the Lazy Susan!), Mimi is certainly worth a visit if you're in the mood for upscale Chinese food.

I really liked the food here, it truly represents a more elevated take on the Chinese cuisine and flavours. The service here is impressive and our server truly made sure to give us a good combination and suggestions that will really flow the whole meal. I definitely recommend this place to anyone who appreciates Chinese dishes and loves a good ambiance for a restaurant.

The ambiance of this place is lovely and the server was super attentive and helpful, and arranged the meal to come out in stages. It was really cool to see the 4ft belt noodle. You may also want to stare into the mouth of a fish. Presentation was nice but the food tastes a little flat compared to more authentic mainland places.
