La Chilaca Taqueria

I was recommended the tacos at La Chilaca and went in with high hopes. The service was great! We ordered 3 tacos each and some chips and guacamole to share. However, anything that was cooked in oil- the chips, the tortillas used for the tacos, and all the meat tasted of rancid, old oil. It was so disappointing. The chips were super stale and inedible. I ordered steak, carnitas, and fish. The carnitas (aside from tasting rancid) was also soggy. The guacamole was surprisingly tasty! We sat in the patio in the back and the tables were not clean. I can’t imagine giving this place another chance.

Service was fast and friendly and they were nice tacos, I’d recommend getting some if you’re in the area. But by no means the best I’ve had in Canada. Not even close. So don’t think the ‘best in Toronto’ reputation is worthy, so I wouldn’t recommend travelling across town specifically to come to this place like I did.

Fantastic street tacos! In the photo are the shrimp, beef, and another beef with veggies. All were really great. If you are around Kensington market, give it a try!

Fantastic taco spot in Kensington Market! Really fresh veggies, and the flavours are amazing. The sauce drizzled on top of the tacos is delicious and brings everything together. We tried the shrimp, fish and beef. Definitely going back for the other stuff!

This place had wonderful grilled/roasted peppers (mild) added to our tacos. Elevates the flavour with the char. Got the fish, shrimp, and others. Cant remember which. All eaten outside during a rainstorm in March. Well worth it.

Hidden gem in Kensington. Simple setup and lots of options. There is a really nice area in the back to eat as well. The staff is helpful and friendly. I had the beef on a flour tortilla. It was really good. Their hot sauces are really good as well. The spiciest one is really spicy, so be careful. Definitely want to try their other ones.

Good late night tacos, I prefer flavours that are more balanced and I would prefer the fish to be battered and fried. Great value for money tho!! Big portions, very saucy tacos. Recommended!

Arrived at 3pm and most flavours (shrimp, fish, chicken) were gone. Only flavour left was beef. Sauces were also depleted except the super hot sauce. The burrito ($11.90) was tasty but an hour later, left me quite thirsty. They may use MSG to enhance the taste. I wouldn't return but it was a fair visit.
