Kyoto Katsugyu

If you’re downtown looking for a fun Japanese lunch, consider Kyoto Katsugyu! They specialize in katsu and different pairing options between meats ( we did sirloin, tongue, strip etc) You get unlimited rice, dipping sauces, and miso soup with all meals. Prices are very reasonable (less than $20-$25 for most meals) and the dining atmosphere is comfortable.

Super quick service and suchhhh good food! I've been three times and the meat is high quality and it's cooked perfectly with a really nice crispy panko coating, I love all the different sauces you can dip the meat into and really customize it to your taste ! Well worth the price also.

Great atmosphere but the katsu just wasn’t that good and came in small portions. It was super cheap so it’s not a bad deal but I just don’t think it’s worth having katsu if it’s not higher quality. I ordered the half and half chuck flap and angus. For both the steak was fairly chewy and not very warm but for the price, not a bad steak I guess. My main issue was that when eating a not so amazing steak I at least want the sides to be super flavourful and unfortunately all of them just lacked any depth. This place is good for a cheap introduction to katsu but don’t go here if you have high expectations. If you’re getting apps I recommend the takoyaki, it was very tasty!

Had a great time but felt like food isnt as great as what i expected. Would prefer a bit more sauce if possible. Kaarage was okay, not a big fan of the croquette thingy. The taste was a bit weird. Katsu itself was pretty good but nothing out of the ordinary. Service was amazing!!!

I recently visited Kyoto Katsugyu and tried the Striploin Gyukatsu Guu. The flavors were nice, with a great variety of dipping sauces to enhance the dish. However, I didn’t leave feeling completely full, as the portion was a bit on the lighter side (I ordered the 6oz). Overall, a great spot for a flavorful meal, though you might want to order a bit extra if you're very hungry. Staff were really nice and inside was cute.

After passing by this place many times after work, finally decided to try it. Not located in the nicest street but not far from Yonge-Dundas square. Ordered two of the half/half gyukatsu which included rib eye, sirloin, chuck flap and beef tongue. All of which had a nicely fried panko crust but the meat itself, which the server said it was going to be medium rare, was definitely not medium rare. Borderline rare to raw but not a nice enough cut to be eaten raw. Almost all the pieces were difficult to chew through, went cold by time I finished everything. Rice was also served somewhat cold. As an app, ordered the golden menchi katsu, which was a nicely fried meat patty. Thought the appetizer was better than the mains. The dishes were nicely presented, staff are nice, restaurant is clean but basic. Overall, was underwhelmed, wouldn't go out of my way to come here, may give it another try if I was nearby.

Came twice in a week traveling for work in Toronto. Friendly staff and good food. They messed up my order the first time but made a new portion right away so I ate double the quantity 😅 but no complaints. The cooking is not consistent, as the ribeye on my second visit was more cooked than the first time. But at this price range and friendly service, I'll absolutely come back again

Awesome place! Really friendly service, and delicious foods. There was only one server when me and my friend had gone together, and they were working so quickly through all tables but were so efficient and friendly. They would ask our and other tables if we needed refills or anything and all around was great service. Then the food is very good, just from the katsu it was delicious but there was also a variety of sauces that it was great to try all of them. I’d also recommend if you’re getting a drink here to try the Matcha or the Yuzu Beer. Overall really great place with awesome customer service, will go here again!
