J's Steak Frites Queen

my absolute favorite restaurant in toronto. the folks that work here are salt of the earth, good people. they’ve got the service, food, drinks, and atmosphere down to a fine science. i like the vibes here a little better than the college st. location and i think it’s the pretty red neon sign in the window. i love love love the butter sauce for the steak. i also think the fries are absolutely delicious and well salted (no i won’t be mentioning that fast food place that starts with M). i’ve taken all my friends and family here when they visit and i wouldn’t do it any other way.

Amazing spot for a date night - the steak was cooked perfectly and placed on a warmer. Cocktails were also amazing! They always have a five tier cake rotation, which is exactly what I needed. Thanks to Jasmine for her stellar service!

Very tiny and cozy Steakhouse on Queen Street West. They have amazing decor inside and many drink options to select from their menu. They only have a $60 per person fixed price menu that includes a 10 oz. NY striploin steak served on a platter over a burner, salad with candied walnuts, bread and unlimited fries. I liked the concept here and it can get quite busy so make reservations in advance. They serve skinny fries here and I would say they taste average but they refill per request so they are always served nice and toasty warm. My steak was a bit over salted and was not very tender. It could just be the cut of the meat. The salad was amazing and not over dressed. Unfortunately, I didn't get to try any of their desserts as I was quite full from the steak.

The steak was a beautiful cut. I ordered medium and it was perfectly cooked. My partner ordered medium rare and he was very happy as well. They bring salad and fresh bread with butter to start, and they don't miss a beat. They kept the steak warm at our table and offered a french fry refill at the perfect time. The service was impeccable. Watching them from afar it was clear they were observing all the tables and being very attentive. No staff used cellphones, they were just awesome, kind, and friendly.

The food was good. Nice concept of having just one item so it’s friendly for people who is not so determined all the time. Salad was like home made, nothing too special. I love the walnuts specifically. Bread is a bit too hard imo. For the steak, it’s slightly cold but generally it’s authentic steak taste. I love the atmosphere but ending my meal with so much fries makes me feel that I am in McDonald…. Hopefully they could consider having some choices for different steak portion or dome variations in fries.

So we didn’t have a reservation on a Friday evening but luckily someone cancelled when we got there. They do refuse people that don’t have any reservation so book a table to avoid disappointment. Menu is pretty straightforward, no gimmicks. Steak was cooked to my liking and the sauce that came with it was a treat. Fries was a bit salty for me but the salad that came with it was good!!

I had a fantastic dining experience celebrating my husband birthday. Every bite was mega delicious, from the perfectly cooked steak to the crispy fries. The standout of the evening was Lucia, our attendant, who was super nice, professional, and friendly, making the meal even more enjoyable. Highly recommend this place for great food and excellent service!

Everything about this tiny steakhouse is amazing. From J himself greeting you at the door. To the two people that bring the desserts out at the end for you to chose from. Love the idea of no menu and you get what they’ve got. Because the food was perfect. The butter tarragon sauce for the steak was amazing. Didn’t go to waste either. I used it in the fries as well. Speaking of the fries. I’m surprised McDonald’s hasn’t come after them. They are basically the same. But better because they don’t come in cardboard and get soft. Eat here!
