Joy's Fish & Chips

Avoid this place unless you want soggy fish for your family. I ordered 3 haddock with fries for myself, husband and daughter. Out of 3 pieces of fish, 2 were so soggy that half of the batter fell off each fish and the bottom of the box was covered in grease. Won’t be going back.

Great value and good service. This is my family's go to for fish and chips. Thank goodness I live near by. I used to go to Scarborough (25km). to satisfy my craving for fish and chips. We get the haddock and chips with greek salad and get the clam strips for my wife and son. The portions are healthy. The fish has a light, fluffy, crispy batter that goes great with the in-house tarter sauce. The chips are crispy on the outside and soft and pillowy on the inside. They have table service and the servers are all pleasant and courteous. The food is prepared quickly. We always dine in, but they have a good take-out business on the side. The dining area is nothing special, but gets 5 stars because compared to other mom and pop fish and chip joints, it is clean and well lit. It may lack the charm and carpeted floors of those more traditional shops, but I prefer this. Hope this review helps. Happy dining.

I tried Joy’s Fish and Chips today. The service was fast and friendly, and the fish was excellent with good-sized portions. The fries were fresh-cut but could have been a bit crispier. I’ll ask for them to be well done next time. Looking forward to coming again.

Very generous portions of fries, halibut and onion rings, and fish was fresh and flaky, batter was a little bland but not too greasy or salty or thick. Server was attentive - I was dining with my mom who LOVES Joy's - and took care of my mom especially well and with respect. Place was quiet compared to what we've heard - it was a cold rainy weekday - and we were able to easily choose our table at the lunch hour. It was busy with to-go orders but our food was served quickly

Will update this review as time goes on, it is literally less than 4 mins from my home and will be dining in with my family next go round. Ordered take out on a Wednesday at 1:40pm, one order of halibut and fries. Called in, greeted by a polite person. Took my ordered, advised it would be ready in 10 mins. (only nit pick, she should have told me my price towards end of call). Got to the restaurant at exactly 10 mins, my order was being placed in its bag, Saw 2-3 other orders ready for pickup, 2 tables were occupied in the dine in section (i thought they would have had a larger dine in section given the foot print of the building). Polite and efficient interaction and was out the door quickly. Chips are your traditionally sized fry from this style of restaurant. Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. Not oily, the oil seems fresh. Some crispy ends in the mix of the fries, medium to large length fries. Fish was halibut, the batter was not overly thick and well cooked, no raw batter to be seen. The edges had a nice crisp to it and was not oily and cooked in good oil. The fish was nicely cooked, no wet or raw spots, fluffy and tasted fresh. I will 100% be going back.

Sweet and attentive staff, crispy onion rings, and the joys special is a perfect meal for two. Probably the best fish and chips in the area. You want to sit down and eat it right away while it is fresh!!

Update: Finally got in and got to try the Halibut and Chips. The Halibut fish is really nice. The batter is flaky and light. The chips are fine. Wanted to try Joy's Fish & Chips for our anniversary, and I waited at the door for about 10 minutes....I saw a bunch of empty tables and multiple tables with 2 people at a 4-person table and they were finished eating and they were just talking. The waitress kept looking at me and just cleaning up tables and ignoring me. Then my husband went up to the takeout counter, and then the waitress came over and said there was a party of 8 for 6:00pm. There were many tables that were pretty much done, and she told me they couldn't take us (party of 4) for at least 40 minutes. So we said that's too long of a wait...and she seemed so happy...it was weird. Anyway, we went to another restaurant in town to get yummy fish & chips for our anniversary. Maybe the next time, we will try them, and I can update my review... or maybe the waitress should look around the room first before giving out an obscured waiting time.

New Fish & Chips place in the Stouffville area just opened this week and the food was great. The service was friendly and the facilities inside were very clean and neat and well decorated. It just a little Smoky from all the cooking with an open concept kitchen. They have a takeout menu as well. They offer a wide selection of fish and chips, options from Halibut to Cod, Shrimps, Scallops, as well as burgers and souvlaki and a little dessert menu as well. I recommend trying for sure! We had the 2 pc Halibut & Fries with a Garden Salad. It was delish and the batter was light and crispy.
