I ended up here by accident, and it turned out to be a great option for breakfast. The staff is very friendly, they serve quickly, the food is good, and the price is really cheap

Very quaint corner family diner. Good food great service. If you’re looking for a five star Michelin Resturant at $50 a plate this is not it. If you are looking for a good square meal at a fair price, then this gem is for you. I recommend this establishment and would go again if I were ever in the area.

What a hidden gem! Came here for an affordable breakfast before a long day and I was pleasantly surprised by how much food you get for the price you pay. This here was...8.99 or so? Plus >3$ for the pancake on the side (taxes in, including my coffee was about $16). Will be coming back and bringing friends! :)

My friends and I went here for breakfast, the service was not good, we only saw a server when we ordered and got our food and never saw her again. The food was not good at all, the home fries were clearly frozen and reheated, the omelets tasted like water, the eggs for the omelet were clearly frozen and reheated, I got a veggie omelet but the veggies were not cooked into the omelet it was put inside the omelet like a burrito. Took a bit of one of the home fries and it was full of caracole I had to spit it out, it felt like the residue from the grill, totally disgusting. I also ordered a pancake which was clearly from the box like you get at a grocery store, the pancake was not cooked fully and raw in the middle I had to spit it out. The food was also not hot, it wasn’t cold more like room temp. Only good thing was we didn’t have to pay for the pancakes. Overall terrible experience and would never go back!

Great basic diner in downtown Hamilton! Had the breakfast special - get the bacon - it’s excellent! Eggs were cooked as requested, home fries and toast very good and the coffee even better. What’s not to love? Expect to be back tomorrow for breakfast again on our last day of this visit and will come again when we return!

A group of 6 went and the service was quick and friendly. Got the big breakfast and left pretty satisfied. The home fries were the highlight, real crunch and salty and the coffee was smooth. Good value too.

Wonderful "hole in the wall" classic diner on John Street. Seriously good, pretty cheap food. Satisfies that breakfast urge. The reuben and home fries were crispy, salty, and filling. Also have hot sauce available, not just ketchup. The green smoothie tastes better than it looks - started out like broccoli, but ended sweeter like the peach puree. Felt like a healthy choice to get some veg! My dining companion had to get the smoked salmon benny and it was everything she was hoping for.

This is the most difficult review I've had to write. I've ALWAYS been a huge fan of John Street Diner, especially for the budget friendly pricing and excellent service. And while those two still seems to be the constant, the Food was terrible. The home fries were SALTY and had a burnt taste to them. While the eggs were cooked as we asked, the ham and peameal had absolutely no flavor. And to be frank.. eggs and meats all tasted the same. As if they were cooked on the same grill top (with it being cleaned). We'll be taking a break from here.
