The foods are great! I really enjoy the tofu and the beans. The size of the plates are quite big and the bbq rice plates are also delicious with various dipping sauces. The bbq duck is a bit too oily and fat but everything else are very satisfying The tofu came in late and the service isn’t that good. But overall the experience is great and I will probably revisit in the future

Took the family to Toronto, and while they were on a food tour, I decided to grab a quick meal at House of Gourmet. I noticed a group of bicycle delivery drivers outside and asked them which restaurant they get the most orders from—they all pointed me here. On a cold winter day, nothing beats a warm bowl of soup, so I went with the clams, mustard greens, and salted egg congee. Added a touch of hot oil for some heat, and wow—it was incredible! The place was packed with locals, clearly a favorite spot. Definitely recommend giving it a try if you’re in the area!

Over the past 30 years, I’ve seen many restaurants come and go in Chinatown, but thankfully, spots like House of Gourmet, Rol San, and Swatow have stood the test of time. House of Gourmet (HOG) continues to deliver quick, no-fuss service and a menu packed with casual Cantonese dishes at very affordable prices. On my recent visit, I opted for the lunch special: a plate of BBQ pork and roasted pork served over steamed rice with seasonal greens, plus a Hong Kong-style tea or coffee—all for just $12.99. It was exactly what I needed, with perfectly portioned servings. The BBQ pork was tender with those delicious charred ends, and the roasted pork was meaty, crispy, and thankfully not too fatty. We also shared a larger portion of hot & sour soup so we could take some home. It was tangy, spicy, and numbing in just the right way, with plenty of shrimp and pork. While it wasn’t the most memorable hot & sour soup I’ve had, it was satisfying. Next time, I’m planning to try the specials available from 3–5:30 PM, as the menu includes several dishes I enjoy. The servers here are incredibly efficient—a hallmark of classic Chinese restaurants and a quality I’ll always appreciate in a world where that style of service is becoming increasingly rare.

We got there really late, but the place was super clean and had tons of space, not cramped or smelly. We ordered fried noodles with veggies and seafood (honestly, the best), rib steak with black bean sauce (delicious), and pork belly with pressed veggies (really tender, but just okay). Portions were huge, so you’re definitely not leaving hungry. A must-try spot for late-night Chinese food in Chinatown.

House of Gourmet is one of the best Chinese restaurants in Toronto's Chinatown. I have visited this place several times, and each time I enjoyed their food immensely. They offer a variety of menus featuring seafood, beef, pork, chicken, and vegetables, along with rice, noodles, rice soup, and more. My personal favorites are their beef, chicken, and seafood dishes served with rice or noodles. During my last visit, I tried the Deep-Fried Breaded Fish Fillet with Sweet and Sour Sauce along with chicken noodles. It was delicious and perfect for a seafood lover like me. The portion sizes are generous, and while the appetizers are slightly expensive, they are worth every penny. House of Gourmet is a great spot to dine with family and friends, and it's also suitable for a date. The restaurant is usually crowded, but you can expect to receive your meals within a good 10-15 minutes. The staff is friendly and very quick, making the dining experience even more enjoyable. I will definitely return to try another meal.

(also posted on Yelp) Located in Chinatown, House of Gourmet is probably a staple here. They serve Cantonese-style dishes. I was surprised to see they close at 1 AM. Some reviewers said the servers spoke Cantonese, but actually the 3-4 people I talked to all spoke Mandarin. Food was pretty average. Nothing stood out to me. However, it was also very very difficult to decide what to order. They must have a million things on their menu. I took almost twenty pictures of their menu alone. I only have four pictures of the actual food I ordered. It was too much food, so I did bring home leftovers. I agree with the average sentiments of previous reviewers - they have mediocre food but large portions with good prices. You may have to add your own salt or soy sauce. Definitely get the BBQ pork or roasted duck. I really enjoyed those. Credit card accepted.

“Great spot for late night eats” It may take me my entire life to try everything on this menu and I bet I would be done only half way!! They have two menus with insane options, and possibly more if you look around. It’s almost like an art gallery with chef specials posted all over the place! While the food can be hit or miss at times, the Deep Fry Chicken with Hot Pepper is a must-try. Personally, I'm a fan of their Veg Fried Rice, especially the burst of wok hei from the dish, that stuff really sending me! Overall, portions are generous and prices are reasonable. Don't hesitate to try!

If you're looking for old school Chinatown, this is a great place to try. Definitely is not the most modern interior, but the food is very simple and the value is great. We ordered a couple of their Sunday specials (B and C) - great options available for $12.99, and comes with a drink and soup. They were nice enough to give us a big bowl of soup at the start of the meal instead of small individual bowls. The only thing I didn't like was that the rice dish was mostly rice, but the BBQ meats were still good. Service is what you would expect at a restaurant like this. Quick and efficient.
