Golden Star Restaurant

Has been a while since I stopped in. Was in area Sunday and popped in for House mix low mien guyanese style and was delicious as always. Also, I ordered my favorite sizzling veggies with shrimps and they give more veg than usually get from other restaurants. I'm gladd to see the place is still a hidden gem for guyanese style chineese. Glad to hear Lucky retired as well. Always pleasure to come eat at a good establishment.

The food here was amazing. I ordered for pick up and had the Cantonese chow mein and some sweet and sour chicken balls. The flavor of the Cantonese chow mein was great! It was much more flavorful than I was expecting. The chicken balls were very nice, crispy, and not too greasy. Overall I really like this place. I may change from my usual restaurant.

I used to order from here many many years ago when I had friends in the area. Recently, I was just reintroduced to the restaurant this last year. And to my surprise, the food is still great! Fast, tasty and fresh!

Stopped in for some late dinner and got combo number 6 which was egg roll, noodles, fried chicken and chicken with vegetable. The egg roll was fine but that’s about the best part. The fried chicken was really greasy and hard to chew, the chicken and vegetables came with about two pieces of chicken and was flavourless and the noodles reminded me of a pack of mister noodles without seasoning. I also was sick all night after eating this. I hope others have better experiences here but mine was not positive.

If you know how asian food is supposed to taste, you wouldn’t come to this place. Chicken broccoli is very basic Asian dish. I can make it a lot better at home.. The chicken was old. The broccoli was old and everything was hard and not taste.

These noodles that were “so called” crispy noodles were actually uncooked noodles was the worst plate I ever got in my life. I’m so disappointed in the quality of the food especially that they don’t tell you that there is pork in the meal.. also the price of this meal is $20 that was not worth the price at all.

TERRIBLE!! I ordered from this place a few times and it was always generally fine however the one time I experienced an issue with my delivery order, the gentleman on the phone handled it very rudely and quickly HUNG up the phone on me. I ordered the Golden Star Chow Mein Noodles dish which is supposed to come with beef, pork, shrimp, and chicken...but it ONLY came with pieces of chicken. When i called the restaurant, the gentleman who answered said he would check with the chef and call me back...... 45 min later I still did not get a call back so i called again and the same guy answered. When I told him I had been waiting for his callback he said "you ordered the chicken chow mein"....I said No that is not true...I ordered and paid for the Golden Star Chow Mein noodles and right away he yelled "THERE IS NOTHING WE CAN DO OK!" and hung up. I was extremely shocked as I have never experienced such terrible customer service in my life!!! I want to make clear that NOT once during my complaint or call did I raise my voice or talk down to the gentleman. I was very polite and was just hoping for some kind of solution. I am attaching photos of the order and receipt to show that I did in fact order the Golden Star Chow Mein!!!

I personally enjoy their Guyanese style Chinese food. The Chilli chicken is very unique and unlike those served at Hakka restaurants but the taste was spot on. Five star. The chicken lomein was very good, just shoveled it down my mouth. The non alcoholic Shirley's Temple was a very interesting drink and my pre-teen son loved it. Been a customer for about 2 decades and always did take take out, this time did dine in and the experience of freshly served food is up a different scale altogether. Ambience not great but the comfort food experience is worth it.
