Food Mantra: A work in progress with a side of potential. While the current offerings might leave something to be desired, I'm holding out hope for a culinary turnaround. The seekh kebabs were a bit too salty for my liking, and the butter chicken lacked a certain je ne sais quoi. But hey, Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither is a great restaurant. With a little more love and attention to detail, Food Mantra could become a hidden gem. I'll be back in a year or two to see if they've learned their lesson and spiced things up.

"Amazing Find!" The food is fresh and flavorful, and the owner was incredibly welcoming. The cozy atmosphere made it feel like a true neighbourhood gem. Highly recommend trying their Desi Hakka options especially the Chicken 65 - it was delicious :) So far I’ve tried the Hakka noodle, Manchurian Momos and the Chicken 65, will definitely be back for more !

Lovely food and service at Food Mantra! I come here during my lunch break and really enjoy the lamb vindaloo, butter chicken and garlic naan! They also have some great takeout specials.

Small but incredibly cozy place on Lakeshore near Long Branch Ave. I've been there twice so far, on my way from work around 9 pm. One time I dined in. It was a windy autumn night and it felt so cozy inside. Both times I had the butter chicken special. First time I was ravenous and managed to finish it, second time I made 2 meals out of it. It consists of a very generous potion of rice, butter chicken, and a bean stew side, plus you get a samosa. With tax and tip this is exactly 20$. I will definitely be a regular due to a mix of decent quality, good value, cozy vibes and proximity to Long Branch

Food Mantra in Etobicoke, Ontario, delivers an extraordinary dining experience with its masterful fusion of Hakka and Indian cuisines. From the moment you step inside, the restaurant’s vibrant atmosphere and warm hospitality set the tone for an unforgettable meal. I started with the *samosa chaat*, a perfect balance of textures and flavors. The crispy samosas paired with tangy chutneys and cooling yogurt created a vibrant explosion of taste in every bite. Next, the *Chana masala* was cooked to perfection, with tender chickpeas enveloped in a rich, spiced gravy that was both hearty and flavorful. The main courses were a true delight. The *lamb vindaloo* was a standout, featuring tender, succulent lamb in a fiery, tangy sauce that packed a punch, yet was balanced enough to let the complex spices shine through. The *butter chicken* was rich and creamy, with perfectly cooked chicken pieces that melted in your mouth, while the *chicken tikka* offered a beautifully smoky flavor, thanks to the tandoor preparation, with just the right amount of char. Accompanying these dishes was their fragrant *garlic naan bread*, soft and airy with a perfect crisp on the outside, ideal for scooping up the delicious gravies. Food Mantra expertly blends bold flavors and traditional recipes with a contemporary twist. Every dish feels carefully crafted with high-quality ingredients, and their attention to detail makes it a must-visit for anyone in the Etobicoke area craving exceptional Hakka and Indian cuisine. Whether you're a fan of spicy curries or crave comforting, aromatic dishes, Food Mantra is sure to leave you wanting more!

UPDATES BELOW!!! 1st visit: November 2023 2nd visit (below this review) November 2024) November ‘23 Next time I'm in Toronto, I will take pics of my meals. BLUF (Bottom Line Up Front): Food tastes amazing and presentation is beautiful! Let me just say this is my favorite Indian restaurant in North America. Period. Their butter chicken is so amazing my mouth is watering thinking back on that meal. Their buttery naan bread with garlic was hot and fresh out of the oven and perfect for "sopping up" the butter chicken sauce. Oddly enough their Hot and Sour soup, which I thought was more like a Chinese restaurant dish, was better than any I've ever had. Perfect tanginess and perfect spiciness. I cannot recommend this place enough! The gentleman who waited my table, was prompt to provide a glass bottle of water and glass and also kind to make recommendations to the fish out of water (It was apparent I was "from away", and he didn't recommend dishes that cost the most, but dishes he thought I would like. From order to eating was pretty quick considering they are preparing your meals fresh. No doubt there is a skilled chef working the kitchen. I had lunch there, and then the next day went right back for lunch again and ordered the Chicken Kathi roll from the lunch menu. It was a big roll filled with tender, mouthwatering chicken that was coated in a yogurt sauce with spices (soooo good) plus fresh, crisp veggies like cabbage, carrots, onion and peppers wrapped in a thin but sturdy flat bread type of thing. (sorry I don't know the name.) I love good food, and I only ate half of it and saved the rest for dinner! I will eat there every opportunity I have and look forward to exploring the menu! Again, simply amazing, aromatic, mouthwatering, delicious food. Cannot recommend this place enough. *****^UPDATES******* (with photos as promised) November 2024 Well it took me pretty much exactly one year, but a promise is a promise and I said next time I’m in Toronto, I’ll post pics from Food Mantra’s! I found myself traveling from my oh so warm Texas back to Toronto (where the govt runs the liquor stores) and you can bet your bottom dollar that I hit Food Mantra again! (Twice in fact as my last meal on a late Thursday night after working 15 hours was from Food Mantra!) In my amateur chef brain, consistency is the cornerstone of success in a restaurant- this implies good tasting food of course. So I wanted to try the exact same dish I ate the first time I was there. - buttered garlic naan - Hot and Sour soup - Butter Chicken Nailed it! Nailed it aaaand NAILED IT!!! I still say the Hot and Sour soup is better than I’ve had at any Chinese restaurant. If you can close your eyes and imagine what a bouquet of savory, spicy, warm, and fresh flavors magically melded together tastes like? You just imagined Food Mantra’s Hot & Aour soup. The hot, toasty garlic naan was ridiculously soft and tasty, and the Butter Chicken? Silky, smooth, with just a touch of heat, creamy, savory, tender chicken that tastes like chicken should (like chicken - not a bland tasteless white meat) And it is still “THE BEST I HAVE EVER EATEN IN MY WHOLE LIFE!!!” But this time I was able to restrain myself from digging in, to take a few pics for you lovely people - you searchers of soul satisfying good food that’ll make you slap Granny it’s so good, and I, Robert the Amateur Reviewer will deliver the goods! Just excuse any imperfections with my photos, I was probably shaking in an anticipation of good eats. Also I really enjoyed chatting with the owner/chef. Found out that he’s a classically trained Italian chef! But there is something about comfort food that brings out his passion and you and I can be recipients of that passion and love to create delicious food. Thank you again Food Mantra for your excellence in execution of fine service, and marvelously crafted cuisine. You make my time away from my family, my dog Sir Charles, and my beloved Republic far more bearable than it would be without you.
