Great food. Great price. Not so happy either customer service. Felt like they just want to finish their job and wait for us to get out of the restaurant. And they recently added a percentage of the final bill as tip. Didn’t felt it right. But the food is amazing. Quantity is good. Price is good.

Some of the Food tase is not what it used to be. Quality of the food has dropped from what it was compared to back in the mid 2000. Manchuran Viggie Fry Rice was ok. Calamari was good. Manchuran Chicken was not that great, the Chicken was like half cook & not cleaned properly.Apart from Fly in there buzzing around for a Saturday Night was pretty Dead. Staff was just sitting around. And watch your bill before you Pay. They already added Gratitude like 15% and if you paying by Debit they give you the machine with Tips to enter. So they’re not say anything to the Customers about pre charged Gratitude. If you like their food continue supporting, but times have changed,a lot of better tasting Hakka places are out-there. Hey this is just my take,my observation hopefully they will see this review and can improve.

My friends love it here, I just find it too oily but the taste is there for most and the servings are huge. The service is fast and fairvwarning it gets really busy during lunch so be prepared to wait for parking.

I tried Frederick Restaurant for lunch today. It’s been around for years and is a go-to spot for Hakka Chinese food. They offer a great deal on lunch specials, with 10 options for under 10 dollars before tax and tip. I ordered the chili chicken but asked for the dry version, as I find many Hakka restaurants make chili chicken too saucy and soggy. This dish was well-cooked, though a bit on the salty side. I felt it needed some acidity, and after adding vinegar with chilis, the dish was much better balanced. A word of caution: those chilis are quite hot, slightly hotter than a jalapeño. Overall, I enjoyed the lunch, and for the price, I don't think you can find a better deal.

Everyone has their go-to Hakka place depending on where they grew up. I have tried over 20 locations all over the city, and I can safely say, Federick is in my top 5. They have been in business for quite some time and are considered one of the OG’s of Hakka cuisine. The prices are extremely reasonable and the portions are generous. I am not from Scarborough and live in downtown Toronto but will still embark the 1 hr drive to and from. It’s really that worth it. Today, I ordered the Manchurian Fried Rice, Chili Chicken (dry), and Kam Shue Beans. All 3 dishes came out to $43 including tax. After the 1 hr drive back home, the food was still hot! I highly recommend you try if you haven’t already.

The place is small but enough tables. Ordered several dishes to try. I was looking forward to their hakka chow mein as I’ve enjoyed it at other places but it did not reach the level I wanted. The noodles are different from what I have tried (too soft) and the entire dish was bland. The mixed pakora which came with chicken, shrimps and fish had flavour but found some parts of the batter to be on the harder side to bite through. The chili fish was too heavily sauced. The dish came with a bowl of regular steamed rice. Ordered Manchurian fried rice to be on the wetter side and was not as good as I had hoped. The only item that added flavour to all the food was the vinegar with sliced fresh chilis they had in a jar. We also ordered spicy fried calamari and the texture was good but the batter was not the best. I was looking forward to trying the food at this place as it was recommended but it did not meet my expectations. It lacked quality and execution. They do ,however, give plenty of portions and fair prices. Service was also good. Food here just need more attention with the flavour and texture of the food.

Amazing food for great price! Restaurant is always busy especially for their lunch specials. $9.75 for huge portion of food along with a pop or Chinese tea on weekdays 11 am to 3 pm. (See photo for menu) We dined in and got the combo for 4. Delicious! Food came fast it was enough food for 4-6 people! We had lots of leftovers. Hot and sour soup - contained lots of tofu, black fungus and chicken pieces, very filling Garlic spicy shrimp - came in sizzling hot plate, delish!!! General Tao beef - cooked very well Manchurian fish - big chunks of fish and yummy! Chilli chicken - signature fish of Federick’s, highly recommended Fried pineapple with ice cream - so yummy and had a nice kick to it! Enough parking on a Sunday night. Front lot is always packed during the afternoon when they have their lunch specials but there is additional parking at the back.

Way too oily. Veggy Manchurian looked great the wrong color it was red. The chili chicken was ok and the shrimp pakora was very good. They took forever to bring out the Hakka noodles we almost finished all the rest of the food and when it did come out it was kind of overcooked. Quality seems to have gone.
