This was the perfect restaurant to get a bite to eat after spending a day at the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM). Plus there is parking around the corner, as well and it's close to the St George subway station.

The food was perfect for a cozy lunch on a cold and snowy winter day. I was happy to have a kids menu handed to us, since we did not see one online when we looked. Three different people waited on us. One fella seemed to be the manager, and even though it wasn't terribly busy, I appreciate him jumping in to help. Our main waiter was gracious and helpful, despite my 5 year old giggling at him because he resembles an actor from her favorite movie Descendants 2. Excited to check out the other pubs in this chain.

Absolutely excellent pub. Good fish & chips special for Fridays, which came with a whole lot of fries. Tastes a lot more flavourful than the photo looks, and the tartar sauce tastes homemade, an excellent compliment to the fish. Peas were delicious too, wish there were more but the amount of fries makes up for it. Waitress was helpful, and the interior of the bar is very warm and pleasant with sports on multiple TVs. Everything on the Octoberfest German style specials menu seems very worth trying! Great place by uofT or for a dinner after seeing the museum.

It's pretty decent! Service was friendly and food was okay. I like that they have an all day breakfast option, although they overcooked my eggs (I ordered over easy and they were over hard).

My rating: 6.5/10. To me this way a quintessential mediocre North American style restaurant. Despite the name, as someone who has lived in the UK I can say there wasn’t much British about it. The food was disappointingly plain and average. I made the mistake of ordering an Indonesian dish, the Nasi Goreng, at a very non-Asian restaurant. Had some hope but was predictably let down. The server told me it would be spicy, I asked for it to be extra spicy, it came out incredibly mild. The burger, fries, nachos, fried cauliflower; all dishes I didn’t expect too much from, but they still let me down. Nothing unique or noteworthy about the ingredients, preparation, plating, anything really. As I said, a very plain and average North American restaurant experience. Prices were higher than they should’ve been for what was on offer. The staff were nice, no complaints there. The outdoor seating arrangements left a bit to be desired. Very simple, rugged surface, minimal decor. Indoor atmosphere wasn’t much better; dimly lit, no interesting decor, not much to notice. Am I completely against going back - not completely, but I would probably only do so if someone else picked it and invited me.

Thanks Duke and Luke too! We are in our 4th year of visiting Toronto to attend sporting and other events in the area and the Duke of York has always been a perfect spot to relax before or after, get a decent meal at a fair price and enjoy a drink or two. It has always offered a welcoming environment but the more you visit, the more opportunities you have to watch the staff interact with their customers and see how great much of the staff is, especially when extremely busy. Our son will be graduating from school this semester and we may not have the chance to visit as often but we will certainly make it a point to circle back and stop in any chance we get! Grafeful how great they have treated our family, our son who goes there even when we are away and especially our big dog Bear when he visits with us. A very special thank you to Luke, a server who has always gone above and beyond for his customers and is such a genuine and caring human who is attentive to all your table's needs each and every visit.

I visited Duke of York yesterday for a drink. The beer was good and the back patio was lovely. I ordered fries, however, they tasted bad. They tasted as though the fry oil had not been cleaned - fishy and smokey like burned batter. It was served with an overly large and dirty bowl of gravy. Not to mention this small portion was $11! What. A. Rip. Off. The waitress was very kind and handled our complaint very well. She took the fries off of our bill immediately and offered us a free desert - which was appreciated to be sure. I hope this business appreciates their foh staff because our server was the highlight of our visit. I would’ve come again for actual food, but if you can’t even do fries right and clearly use frozen strawberries on your cheesecake for the price you sell it for… all I can say is I’m truly grateful I got it for free.

Didn’t start off the best. After being seated waited 10 minutes to be approached and then waited 15 minutes for our drinks. Waitress informed us she had to wait for clean water glasses. The food was alright. Like warm fish and chips. Decent flavour and a good size, but nothing special. Sat on the patio. Great atmosphere on a warm summer evening. Would definitely go back for a drink, but might skip the food and water. Dude’s Food Score: 3.5 stars
