Down East Donairs

When you go to a place and they only sell one thing you know it's going to be delicious. I was in the area installing a garage door and I came across this restaurant. Absolutely amazing. Love the taste. Everything was fresh and can't wait till I'm in the area again.

I moved from Nova Scotia fifteen years ago and I just recently found out about this place!! I’m so happy to finally find a real authentic NS donair in Ontario. The owner and staff are friendly and the food feels like home! :)

My review is very mixed because I understand that there are challenges running an authentic donair shop in Ontario so I am very understanding. I’ve been going to this establishment since it opened and was by the courthouse. When the guy who ran it was running the shop you could feel the east coast energy! (Iykyk) It was always a good vibe and he was always so cheerful. Since they’ve moved there is a women (mid 50’s) and she always seems so miserable. Last time I was in there she was very rude for no reason. I guess she was having a bad day. The food is good. It has the flavour profile of a real donair however they don’t roast the beef on the spit long enough to achieve the carmelized finish and I find the meat is sliced too thin. The large might even be smaller than a small out east but I understand why because it’s expensive to get the products from east to west. Overall, the woman should adjust her attitude when dealing with customers. Us Eastcoastere are known for our good cheer and friendly hospitality and my last few run ins with her did not reflect that

Food was tasty enough but not a very good representation of an East coast Donair (lived in Halifax for 7 years and probably had 2 a week the entire time). Meat is cut too thick and there is barely any on the wrap (had 3 strips on it), ordered a large and it was smaller than any donair I ever saw in Halifax. Service was friendly and the atmosphere is fine for a takeout joint. Worth a try but not comparable to the real thing.

Was craving a back home Donair.. so googled this place and drove an hour and a half to try it out. Being from the East Coast and growing up on donair's...Well they're a pretty big deal. Still when I go back East, its on my must have list. As there are not many Donair's places in Ontario, its kind of a hidden gem... Not a bad donair at all. flavors all mostly hit the mark, sauce was right with the right amount of sweetness, Pita was good, the shaved beef had a nice spice. Size (Large) was a bit small but not complaining. Service gal was very pleasant and outgoing. I would defiantly go back especially if I'm in the area, as its not far off the 401 HWY. If you do find your self here, try the Sussex Ginger-ale, one of the only place I've seen it in Ontario, another East Coast Tradition.

Was not expecting to find authentic Nova Scotia style donair here on the east side! Down East Donairs brings that East side canadian flavor to the east side GTA! The donair slices are thick and perfectly caramelized on the edges, the donair sauce is sweet and zesty! If you've never had Nova Scotia style donair and want to save money on a plane ticket then come to Down East!

My jobsite was right around the corner from this little gem and I couldn't wait to grab some lunch!! The donair was absolutely delicious and jammed packed!!! The meat was juicy with crispy edges and wow that sauce!!!! It all came together in that perfect wrap, I got my donair with all the fixins. I also wanted to say how awesome the service was, super kind. If your in the area please do your taste buds a favor and stop in!!!!

So not my favourite location! They need to find a better way to deal with customers to get them in and out of the store faster since limit is only two! I would call ahead and order! The portion can be a little bigger for the price they have different sizes but only difference is amount of meat you get. So basically you are paying per pound! Staff was friendly. There was a wide favourite of specialty pops 2.30 a can.
