Don Alfonso 1890

Recently , I had dinner here, and as a vegetarian, it was not so bad I couldn't tell. Atmosphere was good, the food presentation was on point, and as a Michelin star I didn't hope for great quality which I got, but taste was not even average. I felt I couldn't even eat it, but for the price I paid I had to wat it. As a vegetarian, I don't recommend this place. When you hear the word Italian food, you think of pasta, I got rissoto, and that was also average, I have made YouTube videos watched rissoto better than that. They served us 5 times from bread to protein included, and desert on them some chocolates. Since they spend quite time preparing the food, you might get full, it took 2.5 hours to leave the table. If everything was given to me quickly I wouldn't have got full.

Starting off with the positives, the interior of Don Alfonso was beautiful. Lovely views and very lovely decor. I thought the service was also very good. Made us feel special. I came here last May for a celebration of getting a new job. They were very nice and provided me a little dessert at the end that said congratulations. The food was made beautifully and looked like works of art. However, the taste was a little bit lacking. The pink thing with the eel gelato tasted a bit like spam meat and the pairing of those two things together is very strange. The beef was good though! The pastas were way over salted. There was one particular pasta where we couldn’t even finish without drinking loads of water. And then finally, the last course was not done well whatsoever. The lobster was hard and cold. The pork was also really hard. Overall I’d say good experience but mediocre food.

I recently had an exceptional dining experience at this restaurant, and it is clear that the chef and service team are truly talented. The creative dishes were a delightful surprise, showcasing the culinary skills and innovation of the kitchen staff. If you haven’t visited yet, I highly recommend it.

We heard about Don Alfonso 1890 when browsing the Michelin Guide to see what we could try when passing through Toronto. I would certainly say that the experience lived up to its reputation and the star is well deserved. The location is absolutely stunning with an amazing view over the water. The staff is what you'd expect of a restaurant of this caliber, very attentive, professional, and knowledgeable. The food courses were creative and delicious. It was unlike any Italian restaurant I'd been to before. The sommelier was fantastic and super helpful. We inquired about the wines of the area and he returned with a paper highlighting many of the best producers and wineries in the area that are not available in the US. The meal itself was very expensive, as is most fine dining Michelin restaurants, however we absolutely enjoyed the experience and would definitely return if in Toronto again.

Absolutely fantastic and amazing experience. One of the best restaurants I've been to hands down. The service was impeccable and the food was amazingly delicious. They tended to our every need and catered to our requests to the best of their ability. The food was freshly made, cooked to perfection (for the ones that was cooked), and they really focused on the balance of the flavors along with the natural taste of the ingredients. I see many people have mentioned that the portion was lacking, but that was not the case at all. They were also generous with gifts as it was for a special occasion, and the atmosphere was just fantastic. They're truly a well-deserved Michelin star restaurant. I would highly recommend Don Alfonso, and would definitely come back for another visit!
