Casa Mezcal

Partner & I stopped in for what we thought would be a quick drink. We ordered drinks, then waited 20 min. The server brought one drink to us, and said the other was coming ASAP. The drink she brought was not what my partner ordered. We flagged this to the bartender; he offered to make the correct drink but we were already running late & had no time to wait for it. He said he’d get right on my sangria - I told him I had ordered a margarita. Waited another 10 min for my drink. It was not a margarita. I stated this to the bartender, who tried to claim he had *chosen* to serve me a different drink because it was “better”. I said it was not what I ordered, and that the drink he served me contained coconut, which is an allergen for some, so he was potentially endangering a customer by serving it to them if they didn’t order it. He continued to make excuses. He put his own cash on the bar to pay for our drinks because he had “never had customers as rude” as us. We said we didn’t want his money but he should not lie to customers when he’s made a mistake. He asked us to leave - no problem, pal! I should also note the customer beside us had to remind them about his drink order and, eventually, cancel it because he also had to go and couldn’t afford to wait 20 more min for his drink. Some of the worst service I’ve had in my life.

Stopped in for a drink before a movie at the Lightbox. The bar was sticky and hadn’t been wiped down, not a huge deal. We ordered a couple drinks with a server. The bartender took 20 minutes when they weren’t so busy to get the first one out. It was the wrong drink. Meanwhile we’d paid, since we had film tickets. He came over to apologize and started on my girlfriend’s drink, but he had the wrong drink again. We saw the bill and our server had punched in the correct drinks. The bartender, when notified that the second drink was wrong, claimed he’d been perfecting the drink and swapped in a coconut tequila for the listed one. He hadn’t asked, and I’m suspicious he was lying to cover up for his mistake. He then offered to pay us back in cash, which we refused, and he called us the rudest customers he’d ever served. He would not cop to or own up to his mistakes, and told us it was a private establishment and we could leave whenever we wanted. Which we were already happy to do, because of how bad his service was. It was almost comical in the end but not worth the time or the money. If he’d owned up for his mistakes, we might have forgiven him, but he doubled down and tried to gaslight us.

This is one of our go-to places for a drink and snack. Good nachos and decent tacos. Service is always great.

Honestly, I left the place feeling ripped off. My friends and I ordered four margaritas, and they served the drinks in plastic cups, which, to start with, was very disappointing. The cups were halfway filled with ice, making the drinks watery and practically tasteless. To our surprise, when we went to pay, the waitress had already included a 22% tip in the bill for our drinks. I paid it because I like to support the staff; however, one of my friends asked her to remove the tip so he could leave whatever amount he preferred. This required canceling the transaction and reprocessing it, which was inconvenient. This tipping culture is getting out of control. I want to believe that automatically adding a 22% tip was a directive from the manager rather than an independent decision by the waitress, but we felt this behavior was unacceptable and might even be illegal. Overall, I was very dissatisfied. I don’t think I’ll be returning.

I recently visited Toronto and a friend took me to Casa Mezcal. This spot was pretty nice! They had a taco special, which I took advantage of, and the tacos were nothing short of great. I tried the carne asada, chicken tinga, and al pastor tacos, and they were all delicious! For drinks, I had their mojito, which also didn’t disappoint. The overall experience was fantastic, and the staff were friendly and helpful. They even recommended some other spots for us to check out since I was visiting and looking for the vibes. I’ll definitely come back to this spot next time I'm in town!

Tacos were small but they were exceptional. Do not sit on the roof during a sunny evening. You will absolutely roast as it's not covered. Had to move to the lower part of the restaurant.

Group of 2 kids and 2 adults. First time in Toronto for us and we wanted something different than fast food. Found this place after looking up several others Mexican restaurants in the area. As soon as we step inside we knew this was the place. The staff spoke Spanish and was very nice too. Very tasty food, we all ate with around 110 CAD.
