We had an incredible time at the bar last night, and a big part of that was due to our amazing server, Betty. From the moment we walked in, she made us feel like VIPs, with a warm and welcoming attitude. She was attentive without being intrusive and went above and beyond to make sure our drinks were perfect, even suggesting a few cocktails based on our preferences. Betty's exceptional service made the night memorable, and we’ll definitely be back soon. Highly recommend the food and drinks. All staff was super friendly and music was amazing.

UPDATED REVIEW DEC. 17 After hearing from Christina, one of the co-owners, I appreciate the steps Bar Mordecai is taking to address the issues I encountered, especially with the security team. It’s clear they care about improving the guest experience, and I respect their efforts. While my visit was disappointing, I’m hopeful that these changes will make a positive difference. I’m open to returning in the future and look forward to seeing how the atmosphere evolves. ORIGINAL REVIEW FROM DEC. 14 I had high hopes for Bar Mordecai, especially when we were first greeted by the friendly host and seated comfortably. Unfortunately, our experience quickly soured due to the unnecessary and uncomfortable interactions with the security staff. The issues began when my friend was seated on a part of the bench that the security guard insisted was "broken." This forced her to squeeze next to me, which made the rest of our time at the table very cramped. If the seat was truly broken, I’m not sure why we weren’t offered a new table, but instead, we had to deal with being constantly monitored by security. Even the slightest movement seemed to trigger their attention, which felt invasive and unnecessary. The situation got worse when we went outside for a smoke and were stopped by the bouncer upon trying to re-enter. We explained we had a table, but the guard insisted we get back in line, which we did. When I tried to go back inside, I tripped on the steps and was immediately singled out by the same security guard who had been hovering around our table. He told me I couldn’t go back in unless I drank a glass of water, even though I was perfectly coherent—perhaps a little tipsy, but certainly not impaired. It felt like I was being treated differently, and when my friends (who were white) noticed the situation, the guard suddenly softened. The manager apologized for the situation, but the security guard didn't seem to think he had done anything wrong. To make matters worse, we were charged for an order of bravas we didn’t even place. If we hadn’t felt so accosted by the security staff, we might have noticed this discrepancy sooner. Instead, we decided to leave immediately. Why stay at a place where you feel policed for every action? It’s a real shame, because we could have had a great night—there was a fun group of men sitting next to us, and we might have hit it off. But the constant presence of overzealous security really killed the vibe. I also want to note that our server and the host were both lovely, but it's clear that an establishment like this works as a team, and the behavior of the security staff overshadowed any positive experience. It's disappointing when a place with so much potential is marred by a staff that seems to have a power trip. The constant hovering of the same security guard, even in the basement near the karaoke rooms, made us feel uncomfortable. It’s as if they were more focused on policing patrons than actually providing a welcoming atmosphere for people to enjoy food and drinks. I’m all for ensuring safety, but this felt more like unnecessary surveillance. Overall, it was a disappointing experience, and I won’t be returning.

The bartenders and hosts are very friendly and gave great service. The drinks are pretty expensive, $20 for a margarita. I came here specifically to dance and while the atmosphere encouraged dancing- dance floor, good music, good dj etc. Everyone who came here was talking and socializing- not many people were dancing. This was annoying because there are so many bars to sit down and have a chat, this is a bar known for dancing yet I guess people attending didn't get the memo. If you're going to come here just to chat, please just go to a different bar. It ruins the vibe!

If you're a fan of creative cocktails and impeccable presentation, this bar is an absolute must-visit! From the moment we walked in, the vibe was chic and inviting, perfect for a night out. The cocktails were nothing short of amazing! What stood out even more was the presentation; each drink was like a work of art, with stunning garnishes and thoughtful details that made the experience feel extra special. A must visit - highly recommend Bar Mordecai.

We visited the BLACK LAGOON pop-up bar in October, and overall, it was a great experience. The atmosphere was unique and immersive, with spooky and stylish decor that perfectly captured the Halloween vibe. Karaoke rooms and a menu with a variety of creative food options, though the portions were on the smaller side, so it's something to keep in mind if you're looking for a more filling meal. Despite that, the food was tasty, and the overall ambiance made it worth a visit. If you're into themed experiences, especially during the Halloween season, BLACK LAGOON is definitely worth checking out.

Great vibes all around. Amazing atmosphere and layout. And the staff were all so friendly and helpful. I brought a rose for my date and the bartender even cut the stem and put it in a nice bottle for us! Talk about going above and beyond. I'm also specifically reviewing the super cool basement halloween pop up bar they did for Halloween this year! Very impressive. Absolutely coming back here!

Great experience as a whole from dining to karaoke in a private room. The staff was all excellent and the food was delicious. Really well made cocktails and fast service. The karaoke room was perfect and the system was so easy to use. It was a little loud upstairs and the bathroom lineups were quite long throughout the night but other than that I have no real complaints. I’d definitely love to go back!

Visited Bar Mordecai for the first time and it was yummy! We made it in time for happy hour and ordered a bunch of the apps and drinks. Everything was great, especially the croquettes and octopus - so flavourful! Only thing I'd say is that the portion sizes were quite small for the prices (non happy hour items).. ordered 6 dishes or so and still left the bar hungry, but I guess that's what you'd expect for a bar!
