Updated: The owner was so upset that he accidentally replied from his personal Instagram account to tell my friend that she hated his establishment, which I find unprofessional. My toes were in fact that cold, I wish I was lying, and the fact that the owner didn't bother apologizing shows he does not care. This review was honest, and if you are upset about it, then start taking feedback and not being defensive when your business does not get the rating you'd like. Hard work is earned. If you want good ratings most of the time, then do better. It's simple. Completely robbed, Avelo. Well, first off, I made reservations a week in advance before flying to Toronto, just to try Avelo. I was so excited and it turned out to be the absolute worst fine dining experience (or whatever Avelo calls it) I've had thus far. 1 - They denied us any extra mini croissants to finish the rest of our pate. The person serving us said something about the chef calculating how many people were coming in that day and that it was strictly only 1 mini croissant per person allowed, no more than that. My eyes blew up and I slowly realized this was going to be a hot mess. On a tight budget with about 16 guests in that same room for the same price? If we put those numbers together, it's more than enough to not leave clients hungry. It was quite the experience having to masticate on pate.. alone? What? How cheap can you get? I think if you are experienced with fine dining, you will be shocked to know you won't be offered any more complimentary bread to enjoy your dish. I'm always offered more bread in these types of settings. This was the first mistake. 2 - Everyone knows those old houses get cold. They didn't prep their establishment for the cold weather, or warn us as they seated us by the window ''to seem full'' I suppose, but my toes almost had freezer burn and ended up being glued together from being so cold. I am not making this up. We were SHAKING while trying to focus on the ''experience'' at Avelo. My colleague and I were so cold, we could barely enjoy our meals. When I told them it was cold, nothing was done. We were ignored. That's the second mistake here. 3 - Usually, you are supposed to ask clients how everything is going as the dishes come and go. Seeing that my co-worker was not finishing some of her dishes, and that I expressed how cold I was, you would think someone would get a little hint, but they didn't seem to give a ''you know what''. Instead, they didn't bother asking. It was just a transaction to them, it seems. One, or two of the staff asked how the meals were a few times and it was never a consistent person serving us. All over the place, Avelo. That's le third. 4 - Some dishes were so horrible, that I kind of started to have an upset stomach. The chickpea dish (see square with drizzle in pics) was hard and dry, I could have choked in Avelo, while others were very tasty. From choking to not choking, you get it. Portions will leave you deprived. 5 - The a la carte menu showed 2 desserts, not specifying that we would have to share them. How can you assume that dinner for 2 means that people are coming as couples, or people like to share food (germs)? Unreal and misleading. No logic here people. 6 - They add the tip in the final price, but did Avelo deserve any tips? Did they actually deliver good customer service? Should clients who go through this get a refund when they fly down from another city to try their resto and have such a terrible experience? Anyway, my colleague is a very known reviewer and has been to some of the best 5-star Michelin restos and I had to calm her down. She was furious and has never seen such a catastrophe in this type of setting. My sister, who is a well-known blogger was hoping to try this out, but I think I will have to warn her about this place and others as well. I guess the 4.6 rating is a sign after all, and I will not be coming back here. Hopefully they get it together and do something about it, otherwise, they will come across other clients, who will be smart enough to speak up.

I LOVE cheese. I LOVE meat. When I sat down I had no idea this was a vegan restaurant. My first instinct was to run, but thankfully Eden convinced me to stay. The food was great. (Sure some of the “cheeses” on the “cheese board” lacked funk, but the mushroom spread more than made up for it. The wine was great. The service was great. The drinks were great. The best compliment I can pay is that I’m looking forward to going back.

This was a wonderful experience. The food was excellent and the service was top notch. The chef did an amazing job delivering unique and interest flavor combinations that tantalized and intrigued. I appreciate the staff and the work they put in to make it an enjoyable experience. We were underdressed as we did not have time to return to our hotel room before dinner but the staff didn’t make us feel uncomfortable. Flo, Serena and Matt were all very kind. Thank you for offering this experience for vegans and vegetarians and how awesome is it that you can plant the business card and watch it grow.

At the end of the night I told our server that was probably the best meal I’ve ever had. Luxurious yet personal. Beautiful to look at and exquisite to eat. One would not even think that this is all vegan. A great place for our anniversary. There’s a lovely more relaxed bar upstairs that I want to check out next time. Check out where you’re going to park in the neighborhood before you arrive. Thank you!

Such a beautiful experience! My husband took my friend and I here for our birthdays and everything was perfect about it! The ambiance, the servers were super knowledgeable and passionate about the menu, the food was delicate, delicious and thoughtful. My friend has a soy allergy and they were so sweet to make her a different dessert. We did the 5 course meal and at first were doubtful that we would be full because the dishes looked like they were on the smaller side. But by the fourth course, we were just right. I was so full after finishing the dessert, so for us it was perfect. I loved every little detail like the beautiful plate they had their desserts on. I would definitely come here again for another celebration!

I highly recommend this restaurant! Wife and I each had the 8 course tasting menu and it was well worth it! Each dish was presented and described elegantly by the servers and the 8 course meal took about 2.5-3 hours. The location is on a quiet street and it is easy to miss if you are not paying attention. I am not a vegan, nor is my wife and we both enjoyed the concept of this restaurant!

I've been wanted to check out Avelo for a long time and it did not disappoint! Every course was beautiful and delicious. The staff were great as well and put a lot of care into every dish. I will be daydreaming about the sourdough rolls! Avelo is a truly unique dinner experience and we'll definitely be back.
